This month, we are grateful to the City of Gainesville for recognizing June as Scoliosis Awareness Month. 💚

UF Health is proud to collaborate with the City of Gainesville to increase public awareness of scoliosis and help more people understand, recognize, and seek treatment for complex spinal deformities.

We are especially grateful for the efforts of our Pediatric Orthopaedic team, along with the support of Mayor Harvey Ward for their dedication to advancing scoliosis awareness in our community.

In this video, Mayor Harvey Ward celebrates the City of Gainesville's collaboration with UF Health in recognition of Scoliosis Awareness Month with Dr. Nigel Price, Division Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics.

June is Scoliosis Awareness Month. 💚

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that can affect children from infancy through adolescence. Because it can be difficult to spot, parents should watch for signs such as uneven shoulders, an uneven waistline, a shifted torso or one side of the back appearing higher than the other.

Early detection is important. At UF Health Pediatric Orthopaedics, an Alliance with Shriners Children's at UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, our experts provide families with evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

It has been just over a month since UF Health Shands Children's Hospital opened the doors to our newly renovated Unit 45, bringing a brighter, more comfortable space for patients.

As one of the first patients to choose his room, Cooper quickly found a favorite spot—his chair, proudly guarded by a plush T. rex 🦖.

“I love everything about my new room! Especially my chair and the big open floor—it makes everything look bigger!”

It's Tuesday, and just another day in one of our pediatric units where The Lorax came to visit our patients! The Lorax may speak for the trees, but today he helped cheer up some pretty amazing kids and families, too!

A special thank you to nurse Hanna S. for bringing her furry (and very wise) friend along to brighten everyone's day!😉💛🧡

As our region experiences a troubling increase in drowning and submersion-related incidents, UF Health and community experts are urging families to make water safety a priority.

Water safety isn't one thing. It's layers of protection.

✔ Barriers and alarms
✔ A designated Water Watcher
✔ CPR training
✔ Basic swimming skills
✔ Life jackets

Because drowning can happen in the time it takes to answer a text, grab a towel or step away for a moment.

Watch these tips from our experts and help keep children safe around water this summer.

We spotted our amazing physicians, fellows and business development regional managers at the ATS, or American Thoracic Society conference in Orlando, FL this week! ATS is a week-long, multidisciplinary conference that brings together experts from pulmonology, critical care and sleep medicine.

Together, UF Health is redefining what's possible in advanced lung disease and lung transplant care in the many adult and pediatric patients we see each day.

A mother’s instinct led to answers—and a life-changing journey for Arianna. After a severe idiopathic scoliosis diagnosis with a curve that progressed to 83 degrees, Arianna’s family found hope and expert care through UF Health, where she underwent complex spinal surgery to correct her curvature and stabilize her spine.

Today, Arianna feels like the tallest girl in the world. Leaving behind years of pain and discomfort, she now enjoys a more confident, active life and hopes her story will inspire other children just like her.
