Celebrating the Future of Nursing at UTMB! 🩺

One month ago, the UTMB School of Nursing in Galveston welcomed 100 future nurses during their White Coat Ceremony, marking the start of a journey grounded in compassion, resilience, and purpose.

Chief Nursing Information Officer Kandice Bledsaw, PhD, RN, delivered an inspiring keynote, encouraging the next generation as they begin their nursing careers.

This moment was especially meaningful, as Dr. Bledsaw stood in their place just 10 years ago in Levin Hall. Reflecting on the significance of this milestone, Dr. Bledsaw shared:

"I am both humbled and inspired as I reflect on the honor of delivering the UTMB School of Nursing White Coat Ceremony keynote on the 10th anniversary of donning my own white coat on the very same stage in Levin Hall.

The White Coat Ceremony represents more than a milestone; it symbolizes a commitment to compassion, lifelong learning, and the incredible responsibility we carry as part of the nursing profession.

Standing alongside future nurses reminded me of my own journey; of the moments that shaped me, the challenges that strengthened me, and the purpose and passion that continue to guide me.

Today, as a nurse leader, it is especially meaningful to witness the UTMB nursing journey and to recognize that each of you is already a leader that contributes to the growth of that journey.

Growth is a lifelong commitment to excellence challenging us to continually push ourselves to be better for our patients, our teams, and the communities we serve. I am endlessly inspired by those who lead in both big and small moments, shaping the future of nursing at UTMB through their dedication and unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and experience.

Leadership in nursing is not defined by a title, but by the difference we make in the lives of others. Lead from where you are! The future of nursing is strong because of you."

Here’s to the future of nursing excellence and the leaders these students will become! 👏
