☀️ SUNSCREEN 101: Not All Sunscreens Are the Same! 🧴🌞
Protecting your skin isn’t just about preventing sunburn—it’s one of the best ways to reduce premature aging and lower your risk of skin cancer.
🔹 Mineral (Physical) Sunscreens
Contain zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.
✅ Sit on top of the skin and reflect UV rays
✅ Start working immediately after application
✅ Great for sensitive skin and children
✅ Less likely to cause irritation
🔹 Chemical Sunscreens
Contain ingredients such as avobenzone, oxybenzone, octinoxate, and others.
✅ Absorb UV rays before they damage the skin
✅ Often feel lighter and blend in more easily
✅ Need to be applied 15–30 minutes before sun exposure
🌞 What Does SPF Mean?
SPF measures protection against UVB rays, the rays responsible for sunburn.
✔ SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays
✔ SPF 50 blocks about 98% of UVB rays
✔ No sunscreen blocks 100% of UV rays
💡 Sunscreen Tips:
• Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen (protects against UVA and UVB rays)
• Apply generously to all exposed skin
• Reapply every 2 hours and after swimming or sweating
• Don’t forget your ears, lips, scalp, neck, and tops of your feet
• Wear hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing whenever possible
🚨 Remember: Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, but it’s also one of the most preventable.
Protect your skin today so it can protect you for years to come! ❤️
