I never had photos of Cinco in the wild. It was just a different time back then for the wild ones. But now it seems society is more aware, more educated, not only of their beautiful existence, but also in how they are being managed.
I started researching Takoda and when he was gathered, and was told by many that his band was so far in the back country that there likely wasn’t any photographic documentation of him. But, with some perseverance and a certain photographer willing to look through her photos, I finally found him. Here he is, May of 2020, just a youngster. He would later be gathered in September 2020. He was adopted in spring of 2021 to the most wonderful gentleman who did what I wish every Mustang could have: a kind and loving home that put a good foundation on him.
Takoda made his way to me because knew I’d lost Cinco and was pretty damn adamant that this little horse was exactly the one to follow in Cinco’s footsteps.
And now this kid is learning to be a productive member of society, winning over every one he meets with his darling personality and healing my very broken heart.

Special thanks to for everything she did, from listening to the grief of a stranger to hauling that boy all the way down from Oregon.

To for telling me that the best way to deal with the grief is to find another horse to love and to continue climbing mountains.

I don’t love Christmas. I used to. But there’s been a lot of sadness that centers around the holidays for my family, and something about knowing it’s Christmas makes you more aware of the sadness. If that makes sense.

But there’s something about being a maker and helping people create special gifts for people that almost brings back the magic of Christmas.

Here is a custom CCW that has been in the works for a few months. We schemed and stalked Facebook photos (we even got the boyfriend involved!) to create the right bag for this woman. She was finally gifted this bag and a set of split reins last night and loved them both.

Maybe, just maybe…there’s still a bit of love and magic surrounding this time of year.
