Patient Story of a New Beginning:

At 48 years old, Sofia and her family escaped El Salvador and its gang violence. She arrived at
Hope Clinic stressed and with high blood pressure. A mammogram was ordered during her
first visit to the clinic, and an abnormality was discovered. A biopsy revealed breast
cancer. After a lot of coordination with community partners, we got her a lumpectomy and
the radiation treatment she needed. She has been cancer-free for 8 years and enjoys caring for her grandchildren, and loves cooking pupusas for our staff.

Today's the day! Early giving for North Texas Giving Day is officially open. 🎉

Meet Maria — a Hope Clinic patient who has found care, compassion, and hope through her cancer journey with our team. From regular visits with Dr. Bailey to prayer with our spiritual counselor, Charlotte, Hope Clinic cares for the whole person.

6 years ago, Maria developed daily right-sided headaches and visual disturbance. When she didn’t respond to initial treatment and her symptoms worsened, we sent her for an MRI. Her brain tumor was discovered, and she was sent to the emergency room. Parkland promptly admitted her and operated within a few days. She had Glioblastoma. She did well with her initial radiation and chemotherapy. However, her tumor returned. She has now had multiple surgeries and many rounds of treatment, but her attitude remains strong. She enjoys coming to Hope Clinic where she meets with Dr. Bailey to review her care and symptoms. She prays with our spiritual care team. She meets with our Behavioral Health Care Coach for education on ways to cope with the challenges of her cancer journey. She is grateful for the team’s care and remains resilient and hopeful.
