Why do you tattoo what you tattoo?

Jeffrey M Zalesak has had me thinking about this question all day.
Not just "because it looks cool" or "I like that style", but what drives you to produce the art you enjoy creating the most on skin? For me, I'm not sure if I have reflected enough to know yet, but it's something I think will help me along with the artist I want to be. Why do you tattoo what you tattoo?

People always ask where ideas come from. Honestly, they don’t show up fully formed.

They start out as a mess. A few brushstrokes. A random shape. Sometimes even a mistake you decide to keep messing with instead of fixing.

Then something cool happens. Your brain starts connecting the dots. You stop trying to force the painting into something, and just let it tell you what it wants to be.
