Beebe Healthcare is proud to recognize its nurses through the DAISY Award, part of the DAISY Foundation's national program honoring the extraordinary compassion, clinical skill, and dedication nurses demonstrate every day. Beebe presents the DAISY Award to one outstanding nurse each month.

Arin Kluchnik, RN, a nurse in Beebe Healthcare's Non-Invasive Cardiology Department, has been named the recipient of the August 2026 DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional care, compassion, and support she provided to a patient recently diagnosed with Stage IV cancer.

The nominator shared: "What stood out most was that Arin never pitied him or made him feel as though his diagnosis defined him. She simply treated him with dignity, respect, and compassion. Her bubbly personality and positive energy completely changed the atmosphere in the room. After such a discouraging experience earlier in his visit, having a nurse who made him feel heard, valued, and cared for meant more than I can put into words."

Nurses can be nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues. A selection committee carefully reviews each nomination to choose recipients who exemplify the values of the DAISY Foundation. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in America, accounting for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases. Contrary to popular belief, the disease is not a normal part of aging, although the risk increases with age. While there is currently no cure, treatments can help slow progression and manage symptoms.

In this article on the Health Hub, we discuss five common signs of the disease and share tips to help you and your loved one cope: https://www.beebehealthcare.org/health-hub/world-alzheimers-month-five-signs-alzheimers-disease-and-how-support-loved-one?utm_content=ap_qcrdroc61l

Beebe Healthcare is proud to recognize its nurses through the DAISY Award, part of the DAISY Foundation's international program that honors the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care nurses provide every day. Shaelee O'Reilly, RN, a nurse on Beebe Healthcare's Women's Health Unit, was selected as the July 2026 DAISY Award Honoree.

Shaelee was nominated by a grateful family in recognition of the exceptional care, compassion, and support she provided during the birth of their child. Her nominator shared: "She cared for our baby, our room, and our family with incredible attention and compassion. What stood out most was that Shae never made any of this feel like just another shift or routine task. She made us feel seen, valued, and genuinely cared for. Even after she was no longer assigned to us, she would stop by whenever she had a chance just to check in. On a day she wasn't even scheduled in our section, she made a point to come say hello and visit baby Savannah. Those moments meant the world to us and showed that her compassion extends far beyond the requirements of her job."

Nurses can be nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues. To nominate a Beebe nurse for the DAISY Award, please visit: http://www.beebehealthcare.org/forms/daisy-award?utm_content=ap_lupebjknq7.

Congratulations to Shaelee and to all the incredible nurses who were nominated for the DAISY Award in July 2026!

Early detection saves lives.

Beebe Healthcare was proud to participate in “Prostate Party in the Park” on Sept. 12, where 47 individuals received a total of 138 health screenings, including 41 PSA screenings. Those screenings led to important next steps for several participants, including early detection opportunities, specialty referrals, and connections to follow-up care.

Community partnerships and events like this truly help provide potentially life-saving preventative care, and we're grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported this important effort to raise awareness about prostate cancer and the value of preventive screening.

An out‑of‑state person with measles traveled through the greater Rehoboth area on September 4, 2026, visiting an unknown number of stores and restaurants.
Delaware Public Health says the risk to the public is low, but people who were in the area that day should watch for symptoms.

An out‑of‑state person with measles visited Sussex County on September 4 while contagious. DPH says the risk to the public is low, but people who were in the area that day should watch for symptoms. DPH was notified later by the other state’s health department.

Measles spreads through the air and is very contagious. Symptoms usually start seven to 21 days after exposure. Watch for fever, cough, runny nose, pink eye, and a rash that starts on the face and moves down the body.

If you have symptoms, stay away from others and call your doctor before going in.

The MMR vaccine is the best protection. Most people who got two doses as kids are protected. You can check your vaccine records through the DelVAX Public Portal or your health care provider. For more information, see https://tinyurl.com/4xn7unwc.

Today, on Patriot Day, we pause to remember the lives lost and forever changed on September 11, 2001. Among Beebe's dedicated volunteers is Joe Dittmar, a 9/11 survivor whose powerful story of courage and resilience continues to inspire audiences across the country.

Content Warning: Please note that if you continue reading, this post shares a few moments from Joe's perspective during that tragic day 25 years ago in New York.

Joe was attending a business meeting on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center's South Tower when the attacks began. After witnessing the devastation caused by the first plane striking the North Tower, he made the decision to evacuate using the stairs. He had reached the 72nd floor when the second plane struck the South Tower. Tragically, several people from his meeting who chose to take the express elevator did not survive.

Throughout his descent, Joe focused on one thing: getting home to Illinois, to see his wife, Betty (also now a Beebe volunteer) and four children again. Over the years, Joe has returned to Ground Zero many times and travels the country to share his story.

Joe credits his experience on 9/11 as one of the reasons he is so passionate about giving back to others. Today, he serves as a Patient Guide at Beebe Healthcare's Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus, helping patients and visitors navigate the campus with kindness, compassion, and humor.

We are grateful for Joe's service, his resilience, and his commitment to our community. On this day of remembrance, we honor his story and all those affected by the events of 9/11 across our country.
