“My child is feeling better… can we stop the antibiotic?” 👀

This is a question we hear all the time!

When your child starts feeling better after a few doses of an antibiotic, it can be tempting to stop giving it. But feeling better doesn’t necessarily mean the infection is completely gone.

👉 The safest approach is to give the antibiotic exactly as prescribed — including the prescribed dose and number of days — unless your child’s healthcare provider tells you to change or stop it.

A few important reminders:

🦠 Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections. They won’t help with viruses like most colds and the flu.

⏰ Don’t skip doses just because your child is feeling better. Try to give each dose on schedule.

🚫 Don’t save leftover antibiotics for the next illness or give them to another child. The medication may not be the right one—or the right dose—for that infection.

📞 If your child is having side effects or you’re wondering whether they still need the antibiotic, call their doctor or pharmacist. Don’t make changes to the treatment plan on your own.

And remember: more antibiotic isn’t always better. Taking antibiotics for longer than prescribed can also contribute to antibiotic resistance and unnecessary side effects.

👀 August is Children’s Eye Health Month! 👀

Healthy eyes are an important part of your child’s overall health—and good vision plays a big role in learning, reading, playing and everyday life. 📚⚽️

Here are a few simple ways to help protect your child’s vision:

👓 Schedule regular eye exams — especially if your child is struggling to see the board, read, or focus.
📱 Encourage screen breaks — try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
🕶️ Protect little eyes from the sun — choose sunglasses that offer 100% UVA/UVB protection.
📖 Watch for warning signs — frequent headaches, squinting, sitting very close to screens, covering one eye, or avoiding reading can all be reasons to have their vision checked.
🧼 Practice good eye hygiene — remind kids not to rub their eyes with dirty hands and never share eye makeup or personal eye-care products.
