We are a premiere manufacturer whose mission is to create products that solve the problems for families with special needs. Our founder, Rose Morris, started this company because she had to solve a problem for her own family - how to keep her son, Abram who is on the autism spectrum, safe at night from wandering. Rather than sitting back and waiting for someone else to solve this problem, she went

out and developed the solution herself. Now, over 10 years later, she, along with her team of experts, continue to develop new lines of products such as the Wheely Cape, Fidget Folder and Weight Mate that help and support the daily activities of special needs families.

IS YOUR TEEN STRUGGLING WITH SLEEP?

The teenage years are a whirlwind of growth, but for teens with special needs, these years bring unique challenges that can make a good night's sleep feel out of reach.

If you’re considering a specialized bed for your teenager, it's often about more than just sleep. It's about creating a safe sanctuary where they can truly recharge.

Here is why a special needs bed can be a game-changer for your teen, why they might be hesitant, and how to make the transition easier.

WHY TEENS MAY NEED A SPECIAL NEEDS BED

As children grow into their teens, their needs evolve. A specialized bed like The Safety Sleeper provides:

Enhanced Safety: Prevents nighttime wandering and protects against falls or entrapment.

Sensory Calm: Creates a soothing, enclosed environment that reduces anxiety and helps them relax.

Better Sleep Quality: Security and comfort allow for faster sleep onset and longer, restorative rest.

Medical Support: Features that accommodate IV drips, oxygen tubing, or extra padding for seizures.

Proper Sizing: Available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, and Queen sizes to fit their growing bodies comfortably. International sizes are also available (UK, EU, and AUS).

WHY THEY MIGHT RESIST

Teens naturally crave independence and may feel that a "special" bed feels too restrictive or "different." They might worry about:

Independence: Feeling like they are being "contained" rather than supported.

Social Perception: Anxiety about how the bed looks if friends visit.

Change in Routine: Many teens with special needs are sensitive to changes in their environment.

HOW TO HELP THEM ADAPT

Making the transition a positive experience is key to long-term success:

Focus on the "Sanctuary" Feel: Highlight that this is their private, cozy retreat for relaxation – a place that is just for them.

Involve Them in the Process: Let them choose the color or pick out new, soft bedding to make the space feel personalized.

Gradual Introduction: Start by letting them spend time in the bed during the day with a favorite book or tablet before moving to overnight sleep.

Emphasize the Benefit: Talk about how much better they will feel at school or during their favorite activities after a great night's rest.

A special needs bed isn't just about safety. It’s about giving your teen the independence that comes with being well-rested and secure.

When An Adult Needs A Safe Sleep Option

Finding the right special needs bed for an adult is about more than just comfort. It’s about providing safety, preserving dignity, and giving caregivers peace of mind.

Adults may require The Safety Sleeper for various reasons, including autism, dementia, or seizure disorders, where elopement or nighttime falls pose a serious risk. Transitioning to a new bed can be a big change, but most adults adapt well to a consistent routine.

To help them adjust, try placing familiar pillows or blankets inside and spending time together in bed during the day to build a positive association.

Here are the 5 key things to consider:

🛡️ Safety First: Look for enclosed designs or mesh walls to prevent wandering and falls while keeping the sleeping area breathable.

🩺 Medical Access: Ensure there are designated points for medical tubing (IVs, feeding tubes) and enough access points for easy caregiving.

💪 Durability & Strength: Adults may need more robust frames and high-quality zippers to withstand daily use and movement patterns.

🧼 Washability: Life happens! Choose materials that are easy to wipe down or machine wash to keep things hygienic.

🧳 Portability: If you travel or visit family, a lightweight, easy-to-pack bed can help maintain vital sleep routines anywhere.

Finding the right bed means better sleep for them and a worry-free night for you.

“Stay focused on what’s important” - Rose’s Journey*

As parents, our instinct is to plan for our children’s futures. With autism, however, you learn quickly that you can’t make plans. When Abram turned 15, I had to fight my wandering thoughts about whether he would drive and what would happen if he did. Will he be safe? Will other drivers be kind to him? Will he be distracted by flashing lights instead of staying focused on the road ahead of him?

As my thoughts spiraled and swirled, I had to refocus them on what’s important. I thought about Abram’s achievements, whether large or small. I recalled the simple, everyday things that have brought me joy, whether it was Abram’s simple act of cleaning up after dinner last night or folding his own laundry.

Autism is a journey, and we never know what’s around the next turn. I have learned to stay focused on the positive and the progress we make every day.

I reflect on Abram’s achievements over the last year, both large and small. I think about the moments we have shared as a family and the joy we have found in the simple, everyday things. As we continue on our autism journey and weather the current situation in our world, I know we will all make it through, one day at a time.

"Find joy in the everyday" - Rose’s journey*

Abram can truly be a joy, but he can also make me walk on eggshells – and maneuver around landmines instead of setting them off. I spent many of the early years unintentionally setting off those landmines.

He is driven and dedicated to any task he takes on. He does his own laundry, and he even folds it, which is more than I can expect even from myself.

Abram loves pushing buttons, sometimes figuratively but always literally. We have found that the trick is to turn his obsession into something that works for us. I can give Abram a choice and make sure I would be happy with either option.

Whether Abram chooses to load the dishwasher or start a load of laundry, I love the result either way. A few years ago, Abram took to handwashing dishes, and you won’t hear this mama complaining!

This was a huge milestone for us because he had conquered some sensory issues, and I am delighted with the result. When I focus on the joy Abram brings me, I can appreciate the positive side of simple, everyday things.

“I learned the power of hope.” - Rose's journey*

Very early on, Abram’s pediatrician made a simple statement: “It gets better.” I didn’t believe her, but I really needed it to get better, so I had to at least hold on to hope. It’s hard enough parenting a two- or three-year-old, and it’s exponentially harder when there is a diagnosis involved.

Years later, we were attending an event, and I saw Abram's pediatrician. It was so great to see her again, mom-to-mom, and to share with her how impactful her words had been to me over the years.

I’m grateful for the power of hope and share it with other parents. My “better” may look different than yours, but there is a better. With time, you really get to know your child and their needs. You develop a stronger support system. And you realize what’s important and how to focus your physical and emotional energy on those things.

I share my hope that every parent reaches that point – where it’s possible to find the positive in each situation and celebrate every achievement, large and small. I am grateful to Abram for teaching me how to be a better parent to each of my children. You learn how to truly appreciate the simple and the routine. With a little patience and a lot of hope, we can navigate this journey. It does get better.
