Ragnar Trail Rainier Relay Race! 🏔️
Once upon a time I had a running blog called Run for Wine (foreshadowing my sobriety, apparently 😂) and a lot of the internet friends I met through blogging follow me here. So for old times’ sake, I’m doing an abbreviated race report here for my running friends who still love a good race report read.
If you’re not a runner this is what you need to know…I drove to Crystal mountain with a handful of my certifiably insane CrossFit friends and ran a relay race in the mountains. We came, we saw, we got our ass handed to us. 😅
Official race report:
Now the official report. I was runner 6 in our lineup, so my legs broke down like this:
Leg 1 -> 7.6 miles, 412ft gain
Leg 2 -> 4.9 miles, 2,543ft gain — AT NIGHT
Leg 3 -> 3.1 miles, 581ft gain
Leg 1 was the longest but mostly downhill, and my least favorite of the three. Reason #1: I had to ride a gondola to the top and I absolutely HATE heights particularly when being suspended in air. I keep trying to tell my crew I’M AN EARTH SIGN, but since my team was full of tough cross fitters they didn’t realize what a big baby I actually am outside the gym so I went up alone. I latched onto a group of moms who took pity on me. One of them literally rubbed my back for me the whole ride up (which took approximately forever!) and the other asked what my hype music was and she played it for me. [MOMS ARE LITERALLY THE BEST] By the time I got to the top I was already exhausted 😜. But at mile 2 things really started to go downhill (ha!) because I did the rookiest of rookie moves and wore new-ish shoes and I earned some of the worst blisters I’ve ever had. The last 5 miles were pure grit-my-teeth-and-go, and not the fun kind of pain I actually like. Back at camp I soaked my feet in the river (heavenly) and hit the medical tent, where my friend bandaged up my sad little feet. Two more legs to go. 😅
