🎤 Panel Spotlight: Conversations on Practice Ownership & Independent Contracting
What does it really take to step outside traditional employment and build something of your own? At the 2026 WAPA Annual Fall CME Conference, we’re bringing together three experienced physician associates for a practical conversation about entrepreneurship, independent contracting, and owning a medical practice.
Meet your panelists:
👩⚕️ Jenna Newcomb Barkhimer, MS, PA-C, CAQ-EM
Physician Associate at NWES and WAPA President (2026–2027), Jenna brings experience in emergency and family medicine, leadership, and independent contracting. She’ll share insights on forming an LLC, working with a CPA, and the types of work PAs can pursue as independent contractors.
👨⚕️ David Wood, MBA, PA-C
President and Founder of Kittitas Valley Urgent Care and Yakima Valley Urgent Care, David brings more than three decades of medical experience and extensive expertise in healthcare leadership, operations, and business development. He’ll explore what it takes to start your own practice, the legal considerations in Washington, and whether practice ownership is right for you.
👨⚕️ Brian Hiller, PA-C
Founder of Rainier Family Medicine & Pediatrics and Rainier Direct Medicine, Brian has firsthand experience building and evolving independent medical practices. His “Medical Practice Ownership: Ropes Course” will use the analogy of mountain climbing to explore business preparation, sustainability, operations, route planning, and team building.
💡 Whether you’re already considering entrepreneurship or simply curious about what it takes to build your own practice, this panel will offer practical insights from PAs who have actually done it.
