☀️ Sunshine, Vitamin D, and Living in Wyoming
Did you know that where you live affects how much vitamin D your body can make from sunlight?
Here in Wyoming, our beautiful sunny days can be a wonderful source of vitamin D, but the amount your body produces depends on the season, time of day, skin tone, age, and how much skin is exposed.
During the summer months, many people can produce adequate vitamin D with approximately 10–30 minutes of midday sun exposure (between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) on the arms and legs several times per week. Those with darker skin tones may require longer exposure, while those with very fair skin may need less.
As the days grow shorter and the sun sits lower in the sky during fall and winter, vitamin D production drops significantly. Even though Wyoming may have plenty of sunshine, the angle of the sun often isn't strong enough for optimal vitamin D production during much of the winter season.
Why is vitamin D important?
✨ Supports a healthy immune system
