Many of you have been asking questions about recent changes involving Express Scripts, so we wanted to take a moment to explain what’s happening.

For years, Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), including Express Scripts, have reimbursed many independent pharmacies at rates that were often far below the actual cost of the medication. In some cases, pharmacies were losing hundreds of dollars on a single prescription. No small business can continue operating while taking losses like that every day.

These reimbursement practices have contributed to the closure of independent pharmacies across the country, leaving many communities without convenient access to medications, vaccinations, health advice, and the personalized care that local pharmacies provide.

After much thought and many difficult conversations, we made the incredibly hard decision to terminate our contract with Express Scripts so that we can continue serving the Girard community and the surrounding areas for years to come. This decision was not made lightly, and we know it has affected some of our valued patients since it took effect last week.

So, what does this mean for you?

Our commitment to you has not changed. We are working one-on-one with every patient affected to explore all available options. In many cases, we’ve been able to provide medications at costs that are very comparable to previous copays, and we’ll continue doing everything we can to help you and your family receive the medications you need.

At the end of the day, our mission has always been simple: to take the very best care of as many people as possible. Unfortunately, continuing to absorb unsustainable losses imposed by PBMs would ultimately prevent us from fulfilling that mission.

We are deeply grateful for every person who walks through our doors and trusts us with their healthcare. Your loyalty, support, and patience mean more to us than words can express. We promise to continue advocating for our patients, working hard to find solutions, and providing the compassionate, personalized care you’ve come to expect from us.

We had a couple of little helpers in the pharmacy today! ❤️

One of our patients told us that seeing Jerynn helping brought back wonderful memories of working alongside his own father in the pharmacy when he was a child. It was a pretty special conversation.

Jerynn is only 9 years old, but at the end of the day she said, “This job was so much fun because I love helping people.”

It also made me think about my own first job. I started washing dishes at The Dugout in St. Paul when I was 10 years old, then spent many summers mowing lawns before eventually heading to pharmacy school—with several other very important jobs in the mix, all of which made a difference in my life and truly helped me in some way!

We all start somewhere, and those first jobs often teach lessons that stay with us for a lifetime.

It’s been over a year since we’ve done this so we are bringing it back with the sweetest guy!

Meet Balto, he’s such a gentleman when he comes through our drive thru. When given treats, he’s not interested in them…he’s only interested in sniffing your hand. He’ll save the snacks for later.
