Concerned about your child's development? Act early.
You know your child best.

Don't wait. If your child is not meeting one or more milestones, has lost skills he or she once had, or you have other concerns, act early. Talk with your child's doctor, share your concerns, and ask about developmental screening. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children be screened for general development using standardized, validated tools at 9, 18, and 30 months and for autism at 18 and 24 months or whenever a parent or provider has a concern.

Encourage the women in your lives to keep up on their breast and cervical screenings. Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program can provide cervical screenings for women ages 21-64, and mammograms for women 40-64. Women younger than 40 may receive breast screenings and diagnostic services if the woman is high risk for breast cancer. If you have any questions regarding IBCCP, or to apply, call (309)344-2224.

We’re so excited for the warm, sunny months! ☀️ As you and your family start enjoying the sun and spending more time outside, we want to remind you about the importance of sun protection! 🧴
Here are some helpful tips to keep your little ones safe in the sun this summer:
🌴 Instead of sunscreen, keep babies 6 months and under in shaded areas and use sun-protective clothing items to protect their skin.
👒 Utilize sun-protection accessories like sunhats and sunglasses.
🧴 Use baby-safe sunscreens with mineral filters to prevent skin irritation.
🏖️ Reapply! Make sure you take breaks in outdoor play to reset and reapply sunscreen, especially after swimming.

Here's how to monitor your baby's movements:

Pay attention to your baby’s movements every day - preferably at the same time. Try to pick a time when your baby is normally active.

Time how long it takes your baby to get to 10 movements, and rate the strength of your baby’s movements.

After a few days, you will begin to see an average length of time it takes your baby to reach 10 movements.

Call your provider right away if you notice a change in strength of movements or how long it takes your baby to get to 10 movements.

Use the FREE Count the Kicks app or web counter. Or, visit CountTheKicks.org to download a paper movement monitoring chart.

It’s time to start counting! Send this to your pregnant friends!
