Do you keep a caregiver journal?

Writing and keeping a journal has many benefits. Writing can be a creative outlet or a way to relax. Maybe it's just a way to vent your frustrations in a healthy way. It's all about making a habit of introspection, which is so important to our mental well-being. It's self-care.

It also has practical benefits to help track your daily progress and assess where improvements can be made. Rather than just relying on memory, a journal can help track changes in our loved ones and be helpful for doctor visits.

Let us know in the comments if this sounds like a habit you could start today!

Do you have a success story about maintaining your loved one's health and fitness?

When it comes to preserving the dignity and independence of our aging loved ones, the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, while challenging, simply cannot be overstated.

The health benefits older adults gain from regular movement is huge: reduced blood pressure, increased bone density, and lowered risk of heart disease.

Remember that some exercises can be hard on the body, so start small and consult their physician.

As National Mental Health Month continues, let's consider another way caring for our loved ones can impact our well-being: caregiver burnout.

Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. Burnout can occur when caregivers don’t get the help they need, or if they try to do more than they are able -- either physically or financially or as is too often the case, both. Caregivers who are "burned out" may experience increased fatigue, stress, anxiety, and depression.

Many caregivers also feel guilty if they spend time on themselves rather than on their ill or elderly loved ones making it even harder for caregivers to get the personal time they need.

Has anyone been through caregiver burnout? What advice do you have to help others find their way past it?

On Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are deeply grateful for their sacrifice and for the families who carry their memory forward.

We also recognize those in our community who care for veterans every day. If you’re comfortable sharing, we invite you to tell us about a veteran who has made an impact on your life.

May is for fresh starts, and that starts with picking what helps you or your loved one bloom.

As you build a bouquet, you choose what fits: a little color, a little support, a little calm.

That's the idea behind a Care Plan, to help you navigate changing needs.

Every caregiving journey is different. Just because yours doesn’t look like your neighbor’s doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
Adria Thompson (Be Light Care Consulting), a speech-language pathologist and dementia care educator, emphasizes the importance of staying open‑minded when care looks different for our loved one than it does for others—or even different from what we originally expected. Care isn’t one‑size‑fits‑all, and flexibility matters.

Having a daily routine can make a big difference when you're a caregiver. From medications and meals to appointments and moments of rest, your loved ones often rely on consistency throughout the day. Creating a routine can help bring structure to busy days, reduce stress, and make it easier to balance caregiving with everything else you manage at home.

No two routines look the same, and that's okay. What does a typical day look like for you? Walk us through your daily rhythm, from morning to night.

Caregiving often means juggling work, family, and everything in between. Sometimes, it happens all at once. It can feel overwhelming.

That's why peace of mind matters. When you know your loved one is being cared for, the stress doesn't have to follow you everywhere.

With the right tools and support, caregiving can feel a little lighter.
Less juggling. More loving.
