RVA Healthcare has lost another beautiful soul. Jo was full of joy, laughter, and a little feistiness that made her uniquely special. But above all, she carried a beautiful smile and a warmth that touched so many hearts.

Heat Safety Reminder for Anyone With Breathing Conditions

Extreme heat can make it harder for your lungs to function, especially if you live with asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis, or any condition that affects your breathing. High temperatures and humidity can increase airway irritation, raise your heart’s workload, and make symptoms flare faster than usual.

To stay safe and steady in dangerous heat:

Stay indoors during peak heat — midday temperatures put the most strain on your lungs.

Use air conditioning or fans — cool air reduces airway inflammation.

Hydrate consistently — dehydration thickens mucus and makes breathing harder.

Avoid strenuous activity — even light exertion can feel heavier in extreme heat.

Keep rescue inhalers or medications nearby — heat can trigger symptoms quickly.

Watch for warning signs — dizziness, chest tightness, or shortness of breath mean it’s time to cool down immediately.

Congratulations is in order for another outstanding nurse/student turned colleague as she has passed her boards and is going places! Congratulations Karmen, we are incredibly inspired with how you worked full time, did amazing in school and went through growing a human and now a new mommy all while studying for your boards and passing them.
