Mommas are always asking me what I have in my arsenal for pain management, so I had to share my latest upgrade!

I upgraded my TENS unit to a wireless one, and I LOVE it! No more being tangled in cords — which means mommas can stay in motion and keep moving through labor.

Definitely a new favorite in my toolbox!

Feeling so grateful as the beginning of 2027 is already starting to fill up!

I’m looking forward to another year of supporting, encouraging, and guiding families through their unique birth journeys. It’s such an honor to be invited into these sacred moments, and I’m truly thankful for every family who trusts me to walk alongside them.

I do still have a couple of openings available between January and May 2027 for families who are looking for support. If you’ve been considering working together, I’d love to connect!

This is just a stunning tribute to how revered women truly were and how sacred birth was (and still should be)!!

This is just a stunning tribute to how revered women truly were and how sacred birth was (and still should be)!!

Roughly 1,900 red figures cover the cliffs above the Zuojiang River in Guangxi, southern China, and they've survived about 2,000 years of subtropical heat, humidity, torrential rain, and typhoons.

A July 2026 paper in the Journal of Archaeological Science explains how. Researchers ran proteomic analysis on fallen fragments and found the pigment sits in a thin engineered mortar of slaked lime, calcium phosphate, and blood proteins. The blood acts as a template for biomineralization, growing dense calcium crystals that fuse the color chemically to the limestone. The samples were bonded so tightly that the lab needed electric drills to pull them.

Both animal and human blood turned up, and human proteins dominated some samples. Two of them, prolactin-inducible protein and lactotransferrin, are tied to pregnancy and breastfeeding, and there was no casein to suggest added milk. From that the team proposed part of the blood came from postpartum bleeding, a hypothesis they frame with caution since the alkaline lime destroyed any recoverable DNA.

The art is attributed to the Luoyue people, ancestors of today's Zhuang, whose society some historical texts describe as matrilineal. Estimates put it at about 8 ml of blood per square meter across a panel that runs 170 meters wide and over 40 meters high. The site became a UNESCO World Heritage listing in 2016.

Although I wasn't able to finish the birth journey with this mom, I wanted to acknowledge the birth of this little one and the strength is takes to pivot in the face of medical necessity while still advocating for the birth you desire!
Welcome to the world little girl, your momma did a great job bringing you earth side!

I absolutely love the idea of this celebration!

IT'S A MENSTRUATION CELEBRATION! Guthrie Memorial Library's 3rd annual Period Party will take place on Saturday, September 26th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Bare Center (basement level of the library).

What is the Period Party? It is an award-winning health literacy program that explores what menstruation is, how to prepare for it, and why it's not-so-scary. It's a great conversation starter for parents and guardians! There will be educational displays, crafts, silly games, a medical professional here to answer your questions, and a Build-a-Period-Pack station. Attendees ages 8-17 who pre-register will reserve an emergency Period Pack they can customize and take home after the event.

Everyone is invited to wear their favorite pink or red outfit, bring their friends, and make a day of it!
