Please read ..and if you have ANY friends in the Lancaster County area especially those who don't have a way to see Facebook... PLEASE let them know that the information on this flyer is an outright lie...we are currently under no imminent threat as Pennsylvania Midwives!!!

This flyer was brought to the attention of midwives across South Central Pennsylvania today. On behalf of PAMA, the Pennsylvania Midwives Alliance, we want to reassure families and community members that non-nurse midwives are NOT about to become illegal in Pennsylvania. This flyer is misleading.

Discussions with the Department of Health, legislators, and other stakeholders have consistently indicated that Act 14 of 2026 does not regulate, prohibit, or change the status of Direct-Entry Midwives, Traditional Midwives, or Certified Professional Midwives. At this time, there is no known threat to a family’s ability to choose community-based maternity care or the provider of their choice.

While we respect that some individuals and organizations are pursuing litigation regarding the 1929 Midwife Act, many community midwives across Pennsylvania do not believe a lawsuit against the Commonwealth is the most productive path forward. We believe the future of community midwifery is best advanced through collaboration, public engagement, education, professional organization, and constructive dialogue with families, healthcare systems, legislators, and state agencies.

We support efforts that protect birth choice, preserve access to community-based care, promote informed consent and transparency, strengthen professionalism and peer review, and recognize the diversity of traditional, apprenticeship-based, and direct-entry midwifery pathways.

The majority of community midwives continue to practice as usual and do not currently view legal action as necessary. Families who are approached regarding donations or fundraising efforts and have questions are encouraged to speak with their own midwife and seek multiple perspectives before making a decision.

We believe Pennsylvania midwifery is strongest when built on professionalism, public trust, respectful dialogue, and solutions-focused advocacy that protects both families and community birth providers.

The Serpent's Key is Wheelchair Accessible, has an accessible restroom, ample seating areas, is service animal friendly, and features sensory lighting for those with photophobia or other light sensory concerns. Incense is used on occasion, but we're happy to hold off if you call ahead!

Please rest assured that traditional midwifery and home birth options are not under attack here in Pennsylvania. Despite the fear-based messaging being spread, families still have the freedom to choose their midwifery care provider and pursue a safe, supported home birth.

I also still have a few openings available through the rest of this year for expecting mothers considering home birth. It would be such an honor to walk alongside you through your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

Wonderful things are blooming for this summer and fall, and I’ll be so excited when I'm finally able to start sharing a little peek at what’s coming!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had some truly wonderful conversations with incredible women who are just as passionate about supporting mothers and families as I am. Together, we’re dreaming up some beautiful opportunities, gatherings, and offerings for our local community.

We’re still finalizing details and locking in dates… you’re going to want to stay tuned! I can’t wait to share more soon!

Today we honor International Midwives Day

Being a midwife is truly an honor, walking alongside mothers through their sacred pregnancy and birth journeys, witnessing their strength, and holding space as new life enters the world. I’m endlessly grateful to be trusted with such powerful, personal moments.

To the midwives I call friends, to the ones that have walked with me and taught me, to the ones generations before who have paved the way... thank you!

I currently have a couple of openings for expecting mothers during the upcoming fall and winter months. It is always such an honor to walk alongside families in this sacred season of life offering support, care, and presence every step of the way.
