Tonight we wrapped up another fantastic and memorable family experience at the 2025 Baker County Ag Fair. Madelyn showed her first market steer with Patriot. Madelyn also led the LaLa Farm goat team with Kenslee Vickers taking Grand Champion with Kasha and Reserve Champion with Lizzy in Commercial Goats. Madelyn won Champion in Senior Goat Showmanship with Eclipse.

Patrick took 2nd place in poultry for his two Silkies.

In the Old Timers show, Rebeka Sloan Undheim won Fan Favorite in Steer Showmanship. Rick E. Robinson won 2nd place in Goat Showmanship with Eclipse.

6 years ago, Abigale was terrified to be near the chickens or any of the livestock, must less feed them. Look at her - she is growing up so fast!! She's a chicken charmer. 🐔❤️. This is a great example of the importance of teaching children to appreciate where their food comes from - its such a symbiotic relationship - or at least it should be.

Yes, the goat babies are screaming. Everyone is fine. We weened and separated the doelings and bucklings. The screaming should stop in a few days.

Madelyn's does are kidding!! 6 kids so far - 2 of which are bottle babies. Mother's milk would not start flowing - but Madelyn got them trained to the bottle. They are doing so much better!! Madelyn brought them up for a visit last night.

This is a perfect example of why a "Good" stout rooster is important to a free range flock. Train them when they are young to know that you are at the top of the pecking order and not only will they not bother you, but will defend their flock of hens with their life!! We had this exact scenario play out last year when a hawk came into the barn. Do**us (our biggest and oldest Rooster) didn't wait for it to attack first - he took care of business - the hawk never left the barn. Roosters often get a bad rap in the homesteader and back yard chicken communities - it's unfortunate.

This post is so true. We sell some beautiful eggs, which is all our egg customers see. But if someone were to look in my refrigerator, they would see all the rejects or oddities that did not pass quality control for sale. Many are stained from chicken p**p, tiny, thin shell, or giant misshaped mutant double yolk eggs that would probably freak most people out.
