Adult Family Care of the North Shore

Adult Family Care of the North Shore For over 20 years, AFCNS has helped adults with disabilities live at home with caregivers. Learn about our MassHealth-funded support services.

Exceptional Support and Solutions for Both Caregivers and Clients

Adult Foster Care provides secure private homes and supportive caregivers for adults with disabilities or chronic illnesses. Many Adult Foster Care (AFC) clients are already living with a parent, child or other family member who qualifies as a caregiver. Other clients are placed in homes with diligent and compassionate AFC caregive

rs. If you are an adult with a disability or know of a disabled adult in need of care, AFC may be able to help. Our experienced team of nurses and care managers will assess your needs to see if you or someone you know qualifies for this innovative MassHealth program. Financial Support

Adult Foster Care is a MassHealth-funded program that provides a tax-free daily stipend to the caregiver. Health & Social Support

Our staff members become an extension to the clients' and caregivers' families. Clients and caregivers are assigned a nurse and care manager who visit the homes regularly. Staff members can answer questions about health issues, and serve as a resource for medical training, education and needed interventions. There is always someone on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Family Support

At Adult Foster Care, we provide a foundation to maintain existing relationships. We help our clients navigate the complexities of living with a disability. General Resource Support

Seasoned nurses and care managers work to identify vital resources for the client. These can include:

-Adult Day Health Programs
-Specialized work and community support programs for those with developmental delays
-Mental health counselors
-Guardianship and health care proxy information
-Transportation services
-Information about other adult foster cares in different locations

Get in touch with us, we would love to discuss the program more with you!

Holding onto those last lazy days of summer. ☀️🛶

This beautiful photo from our 2026 AFCNS Calendar features clients William and Aidan enjoying a peaceful day on the water last summer—and it feels like the perfect way to savor the season just a little longer.

Fresh air, calm water, good company, and nowhere else you need to be. 💙

We love celebrating the people who make up the Adult Family Care of the North Shore community and sharing the moments, big and small, that bring joy to their lives.

Here’s to making the most of these final summer days! ☀️

No one needs to grieve alone. 💛

Grief can come in many forms, and having a compassionate place to talk, listen, and connect with others who understand can make a meaningful difference.

We’re pleased to share that Noella Kloppenburg, LCSW, retired from Adult Family Care of the North Shore, has established a free monthly Bereavement Support Group at the Salisbury Council on Aging.

With a background in social work and a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling, Noella brings a lifetime of experience to helping people navigate their individual grief journeys.

The group is open to everyone—Salisbury residency is not required.

📅 Upcoming meetings: September 8 & October 13 at 1:30 PM
📍 Salisbury Council on Aging, 43 Lafayette Rd., Salisbury

💛 Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Saundra and her mother, Tsuyako!

Saundra and Tsuyako recently joined the Adult Family Care of the North Shore community from Danvers, and we’re so happy to have them with us.

One of the things we love most about Adult Family Care is getting to know the wonderful individuals and families we have the privilege to support. We look forward to being part of Saundra and Tsuyako’s journey together. 💙

Welcome to the AFCNS family!

Myth: Adult Family Care means moving to a facility.
Truth: AFC lets your loved one stay right where they're most comfortable — at home, with the caregiver they already trust — while still getting professional health and social support.

It's an alternative to nursing home or assisted living placement, not a replacement for family.

What a great day at Riverfest! 🎶🌊

The Adult Family Care of the North Shore team had such a fun time at Salisbury Beach, meeting new people, making great connections, and enjoying all the energy of the day.

A big thank you to Bethany, Gerry, Carol, and Tom for helping out at our booth and representing AFCNS so well! 💛

We’re always grateful for opportunities to get out into the community, connect with local families, and share more about the support we provide to caregivers and the adults they care for.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello!
