Oh look, another metaphor for healing!

Sometimes healing can feel like you’re at the bottom of the stairs, looking up with equal parts dread and aspiration. You take a step, then another…and another…then fall off the side of the mountain.

Somehow you climb back up and decide to try taking the stairs backward, because why not? Don’t tell me what to do. You’re higher up on the staircase.

Then you have an interaction that throws you off and you shout, “why am I on the FIRST STEP AGAIN?!” but then like a good human, you kinda get caught up with your life and suddenly, when you stop to look around, you realize you’re higher up than you were before.

Healing is healing no matter what step you’re on, just keep the staircase in sight (binoculars acceptable).

Sometimes healing can feel like the clouds parting so you can take up more space for yourself. Like, that terrifying moment of not finding what you need to feel better is suddenly remembered to exist within you, instead of outside of you.

This quote always hits me right in the heart. It’s so true!

Okay, think of one experience in your life that you had no control over and apply it below:

Wound says: “this is my story (*insert experience*). I will forever act/think/be a certain way because that’s how my story was written.”

Healing says: “this is my story. I’m the author now.”

Your wound is what happened to you, but your healing is how you want to continue living your life. I’d want *nobody* else in charge of my own healing other than myself. This is when we get our power back. This is when we reconnect with who we truly are and who we want to be. Healing is one of the greatest gifts and responsibilities we have for ourself. Maybe this is your chance to be the author. 🔥 ✍️ 💜

Last night’s women’s circle felt like a gift and a beautiful reminder of how connected we are to each other. It’s an honor to be in the presence of women who are vulnerable and willing to speak and listen. There’s a sacredness in feeling less alone with your own experience, and I’m very grateful for all of the women who showed up in every sense of the word. Happy International Women’s Day! 💜

Sometimes I feel like I have a sense of resilience embedded in my DNA. That has to come from somewhere. There’s a lot of valid talk about healing generational trauma (yes, absolutely, heal that up), but also it’s worth noting the gifts that are passed down to us.

My great-grandmother came to America from Lebanon when she was 14 years old. She was newly married to a man twice her age in a country where she knew no one and went on to become a revered and beloved matriarch of a very, very large family. Needless to say, I come from a strong line of women and I know that strength has served me in every aspect of my life. Maybe for today (and again every other day) it’s worth honoring how you got where you are and who you’ve become along the way.

Here’s to the women before us, around us, and yet to come.
