UNC Health Wayne is proud to announce that our Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Health has received the 2026 North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council Health Care Provider Award!

Through diabetes nurse navigation, diabetes self-management education, medical nutrition therapy, prevention programs, and community outreach, our team provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to those affected by diabetes.

Their impact includes more than 60 community screening events, 1,000 individuals screened, 1,300 educational encounters, and 1,300 volunteer service hours!

Congratulations to our incredible diabetes team on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication to expanding access to care, educating our community, and improving lives continues to make a lasting difference.

Congratulations to our Meredith Jones, an Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist at UNC Health Wayne, for taking home 3rd place in the Cream Pie category at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair with her banana pudding pie, the same recipe that earned her 1st place last year!

This year, she had a little family competition when her mom entered the same category and beat her with a key lime pie! Despite losing to mom, Meredith was thrilled to participate in a tradition she's been part of since she was just 5 years old.

Congratulations, Meredith! We love seeing the talents our teammates bring to the table, both inside and outside the hospital!

Our UNC Health Wayne team had a great time at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair, sharing diabetes education and some delicious, diabetes-friendly treats prepared by our very own Head Chef Josh! On the menu were apples with reduced-sugar caramel and a ground turkey taco dip, showing that making healthier food choices doesn't mean sacrificing flavor.

We loved seeing everyone enjoy the tasty treats while learning more about diabetes and the importance of healthy eating. Thank you to everyone who stopped by!

Every year in the United States, more than 3,500 infants die during sleep from infant sleep-related deaths, including SIDS and suffocation. These losses are often preventable through awareness and education. Here in North Carolina, 137 sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUIDs) were reported in 2023.

This Safe Sleep Awareness Month, UNC Health Wayne is beginning its journey toward Gold Certification through the Cribs for Kids® National Infant Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program.

We’re committed to helping parents and caregivers learn safe sleep practices to protect their little ones, at home and in our care. Follow along this October as we share 12 steps for safer sleep.
