At ACBSP™ 2026, Dr. Michael Johnson demonstrated controlled, precision-based spinal decompression using the Cox®8 Instrument.

As more providers manage increasingly complex spine cases, the conversation is shifting beyond force alone and toward how decompression can be delivered with greater control, repeatability, and patient tolerance.

The Cox®8 is designed to support that approach through:

👉 Controlled decompression
👉 Precise segmental movement
👉 Repeatable treatment protocols
👉 Tolerance-based spine care

For many providers, that level of consistency becomes especially important in cases involving disc involvement, sciatic pain, degeneration, or nerve irritation.

Because ultimately, the goal isn’t just movement, it’s delivering movement with precision.

The patient presented with severe guarding, multi-level degeneration, constant sciatic pain, low tolerance to movement, and a long history of failed care. Years ago, this may have been the type of case the provider immediately referred elsewhere, not because the patient couldn’t be helped, but because the margin for error felt too small.

Instead of relying on high-force manipulation, the provider approached the case differently using the Cox®8 Instrument and a protocol-driven decompression strategy focused on reducing pressure while working within patient tolerance.

The Cox®8 allowed the provider to deliver:

👉 Controlled decompression
👉 Precise segmental movement
👉 Tolerance-based care
👉 Repeatable treatment protocols
👉 Greater consistency from visit to visit

Over time, the clinical question shifted from:
“Can I manipulate this patient?”
to:
“How can I safely reduce pressure and improve function?”

That shift matters. Because in complex spine care, the difference is not always just technique, sometimes it’s having a system that allows providers to approach difficult cases with greater control, precision, and consistency.

The future of spinal care won’t be defined by force alone. Increasingly, providers are looking for ways to deliver treatment with greater precision, consistency, and patient tolerance, especially in more complex spine cases.

That shift is part of the philosophy behind the Cox®8 Instrument.

Rather than relying on high-force movements, the Cox®8 is designed to support controlled, protocol-driven decompression that can be delivered consistently from patient to patient. For many providers, that level of repeatability changes not only how treatment is delivered, but how complex cases are approached overall.

As decompression continues to evolve within modern spine care, the focus is moving beyond simply creating movement and toward delivering it with greater control, precision, and clinical consistency.

When providers invest in a Cox®8 Instrument, they’re investing in more than equipment, they’re investing in a complete, protocol-driven system designed around controlled flexion distraction decompression and patient-centered care.

That’s why Haven Medical supports both the instrument and the clinical education behind it.

👉 Providers who purchase a Cox®8 Instrument and complete Cox® Technic Seminars 1–4 within the same calendar year can receive up to $3,000 reimbursed toward seminar fees when investing in a new Cox®8 Instrument at MSRP.

Because successful implementation comes from combining the right technology with the right training – helping providers deliver more consistent care across complex spine cases while prioritizing patient comfort and tolerance.

Not all feedback sounds like this.

Especially not from providers who spend years evaluating imaging, research, and clinical outcomes.

What stands out in testimonials like this isn’t just the praise, it’s where it’s coming from.

From conversations in radiology circles.
From exposure to ongoing research.
From real-world application in practice.

Because when a system is built on:
- Research
- Clinical observation
- Repeatable protocols

…it shows up where it matters most, in patient outcomes.

And ultimately, that’s what drives growth.

Not marketing.
Not trends.
But patients who improve, and tell others.

Dr. Cox demonstrates flexion-distraction decompression spinal manipulation, a core component of Cox® Technic.

This approach is designed to manage spine-related pain through controlled, gentle decompression, rather than high-force techniques.

Cox® Technic is used in cases involving:

👉 Low back pain
👉 Leg pain and sciatica
👉 Neck pain
👉 Arm pain

It is a research-documented, evidence-based, non-surgical approach focused on restoring movement, reducing pressure on spinal structures, and improving patient tolerance over time.

For providers, it represents a protocol-driven system.
For patients, it offers a different experience, one centered on precision, control, and consistency.

Most conversations about spinal care happen after the treatment.

But the ones that shape how care is delivered happen here.

At ACBSP™ 2026, Dr. Michael Johnson walked other providers through how to think about decompression.

Not as a movement.
Not as a single intervention.
But as something that can be controlled, measured, and repeated.

Because when you’re working with disc-related conditions, nerve involvement, or complex cases, the difference isn’t just what you do.
It’s how precisely you can do it.
And whether that precision holds from one patient to the next.

That’s where the conversation shifts.

From technique → to system
From force → to control
From assumption → to measurable outcomes

Moments like this are a reminder:

The future of spine care isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing it with greater clarity and consistency.

At American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™ 2026, Dr. Michael Johnson broke down something that’s often talked about, but rarely explained this clearly:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

In a $2 million research project conducted with National University and Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, researchers used cadaver models with pressure sensors placed directly inside the discs.

What they found:

👉 Interdiscal pressure decreased during decompression
👉 Disc height increased
👉 Neural foramina opened, creating more space for the nerve

This isn’t theoretical.
It’s measured.

And it reinforces something important:
When decompression is applied in a controlled, protocol-driven way, it can create real, mechanical changes within the spine.

That level of precision is what allows providers to approach disc-related conditions with more clarity, not guesswork.

💡

How a provider created a treatment plan for a patient with multiple spinal conditions, without treating each one separately...

A patient presents with a complex report:

🔍Disc herniation
🔍Degenerative changes
🔍Facet involvement
🔍Foraminal narrowing

Multiple findings. Multiple symptoms.
And a common challenge:

🤔Where do you start, and how do you stay consistent?

Instead of treating each diagnosis individually, the provider focuses on what these conditions share:

👉Restricted segmental movement
👉Increased pressure on spinal structures
👉Reduced tolerance to force

The plan shifts from diagnosis-based treatment
to mechanics-based care.

Using Cox® Technic, the provider applies a structured, protocol-driven approach, supported by the Cox® 8 Instrument.

With the Cox® 8, the provider can:

✅Deliver controlled, precise flexion distraction decompression
✅Adjust treatment based on patient tolerance
✅Maintain consistency from visit to visit
✅Work across multiple spinal levels without increasing force

In complex cases, the goal isn’t to treat everything separately.
It’s to apply a system that addresses the underlying mechanics — consistently.

The instrument makes that level of control possible.
