We at BCF are hoping you are staying safe at home if you are able to during this challenging time. We recently received a notice from APH (American Printing House) that distributes educational materials to schools and teachers of VI children that we thought you might be interested in. This is a great time to engage your visually impaired child in some extra learning experiences.

Here are a few quick tips for parenting a blind or visually impaired child:

If you or your pediatrician suspect your child has a visual impairment, go to an eye doctor (opthalmologist) who specializes in infants and children to receive an accurate and early diagnosis.

An accurate diagnosis is the best tool for learning and development of early intervention activities and is the foundation for individualized education plans (IEPs) in pre-school and during school years in the US.

Learn how to stimulate all of your child's senses to encourage curiosity, learning, self-expression, and movement. Play games and encourage problem solving.
