Meet Peggy!
Peggies story -
A few weeks ago during a large storm peggie was spotted in the back of a creek behind an apartment complex. She was caught in a trap and it was noticed that she was missing a leg. Peggies leg was made up of a large bone peg with a healed bit of skin around the bottom she had been walking on, causing her sores.
We had also noticed she had recently had her ripples fed on so we assumed she had babies. In her condition she could not be put back outside so the kittens were watched out for but not found, and assumed passed.
Peggy then received surgery to amputate the peg portion of her leg so she could finally not walk in pain and could start her new healing journey, at this time she was incredibly sweet, but was slightly cautious of people and needed some space.
Within a few days of her surgery we received a call from a woman who found 3 kittens in a creek next to an apartment complex, at the time we did not connect the dots. 1 of the 3 kittens passed away before they were brought in, but we received 2 small kittens that looked just like Peggy. While speaking to the rescuer of the kittens they mentioned being worried about the mom cat in the creek becuase "she was missing a leg and hopes she was doing okay"
We had found Peggies babies!
The first few days were wonderful, then Peggy started to become aggressively protective over her babies, then out of nowhere didnt want to feed her babies and was upset with them around. We decided to move her to a larger kennel (a 4 Γ 6 foot indoor catio) but that seemed to only upset her more. We separated her babies from her becuase they were not retaining weight and we have been caring for them and she has mostly calmed down and has started opening up again.
Peggy needs a calming home with 1 or no animals, and time and attention. She needs the space and time to hide, learn her new legless world, and come into her own as an indoor kitty. She loves being pet and loves her belly rubbed, but is still a little weary of people and can sometimes bat her paws and hiss a little, but shelter life can be stressful around other animals, and we are positive she would do so much better in a non shelter environment with time and effort from those who want her to succeed!
Please contact us if you are interested in fostering or adopting Peggy! She deserves the world after all shes been through and wr will not give up on her!
