5 types of Narcissists you need to know
There are five types of narcissism that come up again and again: grandiose, covert, antagonistic, communal, and malignant. In this clip each one gets named plainly. The grandiose type carries an inflated sense of self importance. The covert type is fragile and highly sensitive to criticism. The antagonistic type belittles and exploits others for personal gain. The communal type builds an inflated self view around being liked and being seen as helpful. The malignant type is described here as aggressively malicious and without much conscience or empathy. Worth knowing before you keep watching: these subtypes are widely used in popular psychology, but they are not formal DSM-5 diagnostic categories. They are a vocabulary, not a diagnosis. If any of this is landing close to home, a licensed therapist is the right place to take it.
