June 2026 Blog Embrace The Powers of SOUND
Have you ever felt a calming effect on your body from listening to music? Have you ever heard of Vibroacoustic Music? What is the power of sound as a therapy? What does the word sound therapy really mean and how can the therapy of using sounds or musicial beats and frequencies really make a difference in your life. So, so many questions...
According to Google.com, “Sound therapy is a complementary wellness practice that uses specific sound frequencies, tones and rhythmic vibrations to promote deep relaxation... sound therapy focuses on physiological and meditative effects of pure sound waves create on the body and nervous system”.
So Google (and I) will break each one of these therapies down for you...Sound therapy can consist of many different forms, such as Tuning Forks Therapy, Binaural Beats, Sound Baths, Vocal Toning and Chanting, and Vibroacoustic Therapy.
Tuning Forks are metal calibrated tuning forks that are tuned to 9 different Solfeggio frequncies. The fork is struck and then applied directly to the body. It has been proven to stimulate energy flow within the body and should be listened to without headphones. Each frequency tone plays for 5 minutes. It starts at 174 Hz, 285 Hz, 396 Hz, 417 Hz, 528 Hz, 639 Hz, 741 Hz, 852 Hz and 963 Hz. Each Hertz frequency has a different purpose and/or impacts different parts of the body.
Binaural Beats are created through an auditory illusion when playing 2 slightly different frequencies in each ear, this in turn leads the brain to merge the sounds to create a single beat. Brainwave patterns include: Delta (1-4Hz), Theta (4-8 Hz), Alpha (8-14 Hz), Beta (14-30 Hz), and Gamma (30-50Hz). These are good for reducing anxiety, enhancing focus, attention, and creating a deep meditative state.
Sound Baths are the meditative experience of being immersed in the waves of vibrations through the playing of acoustic instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs and chimes.
Drumming and Drumming Circles can be done through one-on-one sessions or as in a group environment. There are many types of drum instruments, such as the steel Tongue Drum, Djembe Drums, an Ocean Drum, a Thunder Drum, and a Spirit Drum. Drumming can be very meditative, uplifting and much more, regardless of which drum you chose.
Vocal Toning and Chanting is voice-based free-form non-verbal sound practices using breath, vibrations and continuous sounds or chants which help to calm the nervous system, release tension and provide balance.
Vibroacoustic Therapy which is also known as VAT, uses low-frequency audio sound waves with therapeutic music in which the vibrations are passed directly into the body through special matts and/or pillows. This in turn triggers the parasympathetic nervous system to calm, stimulate nerve bundles, similar to an internal deep tissue massage.
