People's Medicine Project

People's Medicine Project Increasing access to complementary alternative medicine and promoting health justice. Our projects include:

1.

The People's Medicine Project believes that all people have a right to wellness, and empowered connection to their health, including access to traditional and alternative medicine. We acknowledge, and work toward healing the systems of oppression that prevent individuals and communities from accessing care that has cultural relevance, and/or offers healing modalities outside the realm of pharmace

utical-based medicine. Running mobile free alternative health clinics in multiple locations in the Pioneer Valley, including Greenfield, Springfield, and Great Falls (Turner's Falls.)

2. Running a medicinal herb garden at the Just Roots Community Farm. Here, clinic clients and community members tend and harvest herbs; and learn to make their own herbal medicines.

3. Coordinating skills shares and educational programming around herbal medicine in a culturally relevant context.

4. Coordinating the Acupuncture Access Program, in collaboration with Greenfield Community Acupuncture. Through this collaboration, individuals in early opioid recovery receive unlimited access to acupuncture.

Happy World Health Day! As a community health justice organization, we are dedicated to increasing access to holistic health modalities that treat the whole person, not just symptoms. One way we do this is through our Acupuncture Access Program, which offers unlimited acupuncture treatments to individuals in recovery- a recovery treatment scarcely made available to folks who need it most. Learn more about this program and considering donating!

For nearly a decade, grant funding has enabled us to provide unlimited acupuncture treatments to individuals in early recovery, in partnership with our friends at Greenfield Community Acupuncture . We recently discovered this grant funding has run out. Help us continue this program by giving a donation of any amount. Your support can make the difference in someone's recovery journey. Thank you!

Seeking 2026 People’s Medicine Project Homestead Intern!

Seeking an intern for 2026 growing season, ready to dive into medicinal plants and homestead care. People’s Medicine Project is a health justice organization focusing on access to holistic health care. We run free clinics throughout Western MA, and we integrate herbal medicine into all our offerings.

The internship runs mid April mid-October, with some flexibility on either end, as well as flexibility for summer vacation travel. We require 15-20 hours of homestead work per week. That work could include: greenhouse work, wild herb harvesting, planting, weeding, tending, mulching of herbs, pollinator plants, and vegetables. Also, includes harvesting cultivated medicinal plants, dehydrator tending, apothecary special projects, making herbal preparations, packing for clinics, and attending PMP’s annual plant sale and possibly, seasonal clinics.

In exchange for your contribution, we offer you: yurt living (yurt is uninsulated but has a wood stove). Separate kitchen area with access to power and water. Access to food and herbs grown on the homestead. Swimming hole a plus. PMP herbalists are available to support you in your learning goals with readings, exercises, and special projects. If you seek to get credit or to be paid for the internship from your college, we will do all the required paperwork.

If you are interested in applying, send a cover letter and resume to Leslie Chaison by February 25: [email protected]. Please include availability, needs for time off, whether you will be trying to get credit, and any potential goals you have for the experience. I will get back to you by March for next steps.
