Next week we will be introducing our new Difference Makers Series, a special spotlight dedicated to the incredible volunteers who help make FUSE possible.
Follow this series as we share the stories behind the people who help create opportunities, friendships, support, and inclusion throughout our community.
Each feature will give you a chance to get to know the amazing people behind the mission.
First, we’ll introduce you to the volunteers. Then, they’ll share their own “What, When & Why” what they do, when they became involved, and why they choose to support FUSE. Finally, we’ll take a moment to recognize and thank them for the difference they make in the lives of the individuals and families we serve.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating and thanking these incredible volunteers who help make the FUSE mission stronger every single day.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we hold gratitude in our hearts for those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

Join The Arc of Shelby County for our Blue Envelope Simulation Event!

In partnership with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Calera, Montevallo, and Columbiana Police Departments, along with local fire and dispatch teams, this event gives individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to practice “mock” emergency interactions in a calm and supportive environment.

This is also a great opportunity for families and community members to meet and interact with first responders outside of an emergency situation.

We’re honored to be among the 33 organizations selected to receive funding through the 2026 Annual Grant Cycle from the Community Foundation of Hancock County.

This investment will help FUSE continue creating opportunities for connection, inclusion, and support for individuals with disabilities and their families throughout Hancock County and beyond.

We are grateful to the Community Foundation of Hancock County, its generous donors, and everyone who believes in strengthening our community through meaningful partnerships. Congratulations to all of the fellow grant recipients who are making a difference every day!

Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive Hancock County. 💙

🥳CFHC granted more than $265,000 to local nonprofits in the 2026 Annual Grant Cycle. The goal is for these funds to support or increase an agency’s capacity to deliver programs and services that benefit Hancock County.

🩵These grants span a variety of sectors including health and human services, community enhancement, youth development, and arts and culture. The grant projects also touch many different communities throughout the county.

🗨️“We are grateful to our donors, whose generosity allows us to invest these funds with care and intention,” said Katie Ottinger, Community Investment & Grants Officer. “Just as importantly, we are continually inspired by the nonprofits doing selfless, on-the-ground work to serve Hancock County and make it an even better place for everyone.”

➡️The 2026 Annual Grant Cycle was open to any 501(c)3 or charitable tax-exempt organization serving Hancock County. The available grant categories were Program and Project Support and Capital Improvement. This grant cycle granted more than $265,000 to 33 organizations from a collection of CFHC’s resources.
