When God first gave me Talks About God, I didn't know exactly what these gatherings would become. I just knew I was supposed to create the space.
So in August, we gathered around a table and talked about God.
We asked questions like:
Who do I know God to be?
Do I really see myself as made in His image?
What does it mean to love someone as Jesus describes love?
Whose plans am I actually following?
We opened the Bible. We wrestled with what we read. We listened to perspectives different from our own. We shared lessons, questions and testimonies. Sometimes someone's response caused someone else to see a familiar passage differently.
And through it all, God met us there.
One of my favorite things about these conversations has been that no one has to arrive with the "right" answer. We agreed from the beginning that we would be curious, not critical; listen for understanding; respect different perspectives; and pray before we speak.
Scripture remains our foundation. But there is room at the table for the question, the uncertainty, the revelation, the testimony and the "I never thought about it that way."
I originally thought August might be it.
Then two people said, "Can we keep going?"
And here we are.
