Having problems with your hip? Your physician may first recommend other treatments. These include medicine for pain or inflammation, walking aids and physical therapy. If you keep on having pain and have a hard time getting around, hip replacement surgery may be an option.

The purpose of most hip replacements is to treat pain and damage from arthritis. In osteoarthritis, long-term wear-and-tear damages the joint. In rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and tissue damage. Traditional hip replacement surgery involves making an incision on the side of the hip (lateral approach) or the back of the hip (posterior approach). Take a closer look at total hip replacement surgeries and what happens after surgery on our website.

Chef Amanda Freitag reported last week that she’s “feeling GOOD” after undergoing hip replacement surgery.

In a pre-surgery post, Freitag had explained that her goal was to “get back to doing what I love pain free.”

Having knee pain that stops you from doing everyday activities? Not all knee pain goes away on its own. Meniscus tears—damage to the crucial cartilage that cushions your knee joint—is among the most common knee injuries. It could be caused by a sudden twist during sports or gradual wear and tear over time. These injuries can cause pain, swelling or even that "locking" sensation when moving your knee. On a positive note--many tears can be treated non-surgically with rest, physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medications. For those cases that are more severe, minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures can effectively repair or remove damaged tissue, getting you back on your feet and enjoying your favorite summer activities.

Your best bet though is to have Dr. Michael Jurenovich, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, evaluate that pain, recommend a plan and get you back to your every day life. Dr. Jurenovich has offices in Niles, Ohio and Greenville, Pa. Both offices can be reached by calling 888-649-4805. www.JurenovichOrtho.com.

As the weather gets warmer, many of us are excited to head outside and work in our yards. Unfortunately, this is the time that ankle injuries can occur. Common ankle injuries include sprains, fractures, tendon injuries, ligament tears and cartilage damage. Surgery is usually considered when there is:
• a broken bone that is displaced or unstable
• a severe ligament injury
• chronic ankle instability
• a tendon rupture
• damage that does not improve with rest, bracing, physical therapy, or time

These injuries sound familiar? It’s probably a great time to make an appointment, to evaluate your injury with board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Michael Jurenovich, who has offices in both Niles, Ohio and Greenville, Pennsylvania. To schedule an appointment at either location, just call 888-649-4805. www/JurenovichOrtho.com
