A beautiful result using Botox in the neck to address the vertical cords running down the neck called platysmal bands.

The bands form from the platysma, a thin sheet of muscle that contracts every time we grimace or clench, and over the years that repeated pull starts to show even when the face is at rest.

Because the bands are muscular in origin, creams and resurfacing can only take you so far. Carefully placed Botox relaxes the platysma so the bands soften and the neck and jawline stop being pulled downward.

For patients who also notice crepiness or laxity, we often pair neuromodulators with collagen-building treatments like Morpheus8 or Sofwave.

As board-certified dermatologists, we spend the day looking closely at skin. Here’s what sends up flags:

- A new spot that wasn’t there a few months ago. Most melanomas actually show up this way, as something brand new rather than an existing mole gone rogue.

- A mole that’s changed. Different border, different color, bigger than it used to be, or just looks off compared to the others on your body.

- Anything that bleeds, itches, or won’t heal after a few weeks. Skin is supposed to heal itself. When it doesn’t, that’s information.

- A spot that looks different from everything else on your skin. Dermatologists call this the ugly duckling sign, and it’s often the fastest way we spot something worth a closer look.

The tricky part is that skin cancer can be subtle in its early stages, which is exactly why annual screenings matter, along with knowing your own skin between visits.

Laser vs. injection. Spider veins have two very different solutions, and knowing which one fits your veins is where the real expertise comes in.

Vasculaze uses laser energy that targets blood vessels directly, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched. It’s well suited to facial veins, broken capillaries, and more complex vein patterns.

Sclerotherapy takes a different route. A prescription solution is injected into the vein, and over several weeks the body replaces it with new tissue. It remains the gold standard for spider veins on the legs.
