So much of what I do clinically isn’t about giving people more information — most people already know they’re stressed, know they should sleep more, know they should do recovery work. The work is helping the body actually integrate that and respond differently.

That’s the difference between knowing something and your nervous system believing it.

That moment when you feel yourself respond bigger than the situation calls for — it’s not a character flaw, and it’s not “too much.” Often it’s your nervous system replaying a pattern it learned to protect you, long before this specific moment.

The reaction itself is real. It’s just responding to something older than what’s actually in front of you right now.

This is where regulation tools come in — whether that’s a HeartMath technique in the moment, or acupuncture to help shift your baseline over time.

The goal isn’t to stop feeling things. It’s to help your body recognize that right now is actually safe.

Save this for the next time you catch yourself reacting bigger than the moment calls for.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a partner, a friend, or your boss. That reaction often isn’t about overthinking or “being too much” — it can be your nervous system doing what it learned to do: scanning for danger in a moment of uncertainty.

Sometimes the delay itself isn’t really the trigger. It’s what your body has learned to associate with delay, silence, or distance.

The good news: this kind of reactivity can soften significantly with nervous system regulation. When your body feels safer at baseline, a delayed text starts to just be a delayed text.

Save this if you’ve ever re-read a message 6 times looking for a hidden meaning that wasn’t there.

💬 Comment “spiral” if this is a familiar loop for you.

Spent today at the New York Botanical Garden, and my nervous system noticed before my mind did.

Time in nature isn’t just “nice to have.” It measurably shifts your body out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest, slower heart rate, lower cortisol, softer breathing, calmer nervous system.

You don’t have to hike a mountain to get this. Even a short walk somewhere green does the same thing on a smaller scale. Your body knows how to come back to baseline. Sometimes it just needs the right setting to remember how.

Where’s your version of this? A park, a beach, your own backyard? Tell me in the comments.

I can’t recommend Amy enough - I have been seeing her for weekly acupuncture sessions for 2 years now - she effectively addresses any concerns I have and genuinely cares. I feel more balanced, have successfully gotten pregnant and had a healthy pregnancy, and leave each session feeling better than when I came in. She is professional, warm, and lovely - absolutely wonderful! -Michelle
