✨ Offering SPRAVATO® (Esketamine) & Ketamine Treatments at Watson Psychiatry ✨

At Watson Psychiatry, we are proud to offer both IM Ketamine and SPRAVATO® (esketamine) treatments in-office at our DTC Landmark location to support patients struggling with depression, trauma, and other mental health conditions.

SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved treatment for treatment-resistant depression and depression with suicidal thoughts. Ketamine therapy has also shown promising benefits for individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar depression, and other mental health challenges.

Both treatments work differently than traditional antidepressants and may provide symptom relief more quickly for some patients who have not responded well to medications or therapy alone.

💙 Treatment options include:
✔️ SPRAVATO® (esketamine) nasal spray
✔️ IM Ketamine therapy
✔️ In-office monitoring in a safe, supportive environment
✔️ Personalized treatment planning with our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners

If you or a loved one are struggling and traditional treatments haven’t helped, we’re here to discuss whether ketamine or SPRAVATO® may be an option for you.

🧠 Su***de Risk Assessment: A Structured Approach That Saves Lives

Su***de is not just a moment — it is often the result of unrecognized distress, untreated mental illness, and missed clinical warning signs.

As healthcare professionals, our ability to assess risk accurately and intervene early can make the difference between life and death.

🔍 Core Components of Assessment:
• Suicidal ideation (passive vs active)
• Presence of a plan
• Intent to act
• History of previous attempts

⚠️ High-Risk Indicators:
• Prior su***de attempts (strongest predictor)
• Psychiatric disorders (depression, bipolar disorder, substance use)
• Hopelessness and impulsivity
• Access to lethal means

🚨 Warning Signs (Immediate Attention Required):
• Talking about wanting to die
• Social withdrawal or sudden behavioral change
• Giving away possessions
• Searching for means

🛡️ Protective Factors Matter:
• Strong social support
• Access to care
• Coping skills and sense of purpose

💊 Clinical Responsibility:
✔ Ask directly — it does NOT increase risk
✔ Ensure patient safety and remove access to means
✔ Develop a safety plan and involve mental health professionals
✔ Document thoroughly and follow up

Early recognition, empathy, and timely action are critical.

💬 Are we doing enough to identify su***de risk early in clinical settings?

🧠 Neurotransmitters & Disorders: The Chemistry Behind Mental Health

Every thought, emotion, and behavior is influenced by tiny chemical messengers in the brain known as neurotransmitters.

When these chemicals are in balance, brain function remains stable. However, even a slight imbalance can contribute to psychiatric and neurological disorders.

🔬 Key Neurotransmitters & Clinical Relevance:

⚡ Dopamine – regulates reward, motivation, and movement
↑ Linked to schizophrenia
↓ Associated with Parkinson’s disease and depression

💙 Serotonin (5-HT) – controls mood, sleep, and appetite
↓ Leads to depression, anxiety, and OCD

🔥 Norepinephrine – responsible for alertness and stress response
↓ Depression | ↑ Anxiety disorders

🧘 GABA – the brain’s primary calming neurotransmitter
↓ Causes anxiety and seizure disorders

⚡ Glutamate – main excitatory neurotransmitter
↑ Leads to neurotoxicity and plays a role in Alzheimer’s disease

🧩 Acetylcholine – essential for memory and learning
↓ Associated with Alzheimer’s disease and neuromuscular disorders

💊 Clinical Insight:
Most psychiatric treatments target these pathways:
✔ SSRIs increase serotonin
✔ Antipsychotics reduce dopamine activity
✔ Benzodiazepines enhance GABA

⚖️ Mental health disorders rarely involve a single neurotransmitter — they reflect a complex imbalance within brain chemistry.

Understanding these mechanisms is essential for accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and improved patient outcomes.

Let’s continue to bridge the gap between neuroscience and clinical practice.

💬 Which neurotransmitter do you think plays the most critical role in mental health?
