No two days in psychiatric nursing look exactly the same. That's part of what makes it one of the most challenging, and most rewarding, specialties in all of nursing.
A shift in psych might start with a morning assessment, move into a crisis intervention, circle back to a quiet conversation with a patient who finally opened up after weeks of walls, and end somewhere completely unexpected. The work requires clinical sharpness and emotional steadiness at the same time, and the ability to hold space for people who are carrying more than most of us will ever fully understand.
In this video, a psychiatric NP walks us through what her day actually looks like, the rhythms, the hard moments, the small wins that make it all worth it, and the reality of a specialty that doesn't always get the recognition it deserves.
