Ideally, we meet before baby arrives so you can head into those first days feeling informed and prepared but babies don’t always wait for us to feel ready. 😅

Ever looked at the ounces you’ve pumped and immediately worried about your milk supply?

Pump output can give us helpful information, but it’s only one piece of the whole picture. The amount you pump can be affected by your pump, fl**ge fit, time of day, how recently you nursed your baby, your letdown response, and more.

And when baby is nursing directly at the breast, what you pump doesn’t necessarily tell us what baby is able to transfer.

When we’re evaluating milk intake and supply, we look at the whole picture- feeding patterns, diaper output, milk transfer, weight gain, and baby’s growth over time.

Ounces are information- not a grade. 🖤

The truth? Low milk supply is often assumed before it’s actually assessed.

If you’re questioning your milk supply, don’t panic first. Look at the whole picture: baby’s weight gain, diaper output, feeding behavior, and growth- not just one difficult day.

Save this for the next time breastfeeding has you second-guessing yourself. 🤍

“The fl**ge size that came with my pump should fit me, right?”

Not necessarily.

Most pumps include a standard fl**ge around 24mm, but many breastfeeding parents actually need something much smaller- or occasionally larger.

That’s why I keep a variety of sizing inserts on hand and this nifty ruler. Finding the right fit can make a world of difference, not just in comfort, but also in milk transfer!

Comparison has never fed a baby.

Not comparison to another mom.

Not comparison to the baby on social media who “sleeps through the night”.

Not comparison to the breastfeeding journey you imagined you’d have.

And not even comparison to your own expectations.

Babies don’t need perfect. They need to be fed, loved, held and cared for.

If today looks different than yesterday- or different than you hoped- that doesn’t mean you’re failing.. it means you’re parenting a brand new human who is changing every single day.

Don’t forget to give yourself grace. 🤍
