What’s your kiddo eating for breakfast? 🍽️

It may seem simple, but breakfast can play a big role in how your child feels, focuses, and functions throughout the day.

Cathie Donald, M.D. often recommends adding color to breakfast so kids can start their morning on the right foot. Think berries, avocado, eggs, sweet potato, colorful fruit, whole foods, and protein-rich options that help support steady energy.

You’ll often hear us say, “It starts in the gut!” That’s because when we’re looking for root causes, one of the first things we ask about is diet. What your child eats can impact digestion, mood, focus, immune health, inflammation, and overall wellness.

A balanced breakfast doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, intentional changes can make a big difference.

Add the color. Add the protein. Support the gut. 🌈

What’s for breakfast? You will hear me say “aim for 5 colors of vegetables and fruits a day”. Why? Because we need vitamins, minerals and fiber to optimize our bodies. So let’s reframe breakfast. Kids don’t have to think muffins and cereal are “breakfast” foods. Pull out left overs. Think sweet potatoes on the side of a turkey roll up, green beans with an egg, cherry tomatoes and a cheese stick, celery with peanut butter.
If you accept this change eventually your kids will too. Don’t forget “just one bite” is a start.

New light washes over the land. Fields, Hill‘s, hedges, back roads. Ordinary country living.

Then light touches something else …a tangle of green & white blossoms, organic, and unruly.

Pools of water… trickling streams.

What a moment coated in this body oil creates.

When focus feels hard for your kiddo, there may be more to the story.

Difficulty paying attention, staying on task, managing big feelings, or following routines can have many contributing factors. Sleep, nutrition, daily structure, emotional regulation, and school support can all play a role in how a child feels and functions day to day.

Every child is different, which is why it’s important to look at the whole picture. Dr. Cathie can help families better understand what may be contributing and guide them toward thoughtful, individualized support.

Support starts with understanding!
