🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP: Elijah’s Closet doesn't have enough funds to stay open through the end of the year . 🚨
For years, Elijah’s Closet has been a windfall for our community’s most vulnerable children and families. We have stood in the gap to ensure that foster families, kinship placements, and children at risk of going into foster care have the clothes, gear, and essentials they need to feel safe, valued, and loved. We have assisted over 5,500 children in our 8 years as a 501(c)3 nonprofit.

But today, we are facing a devastating reality: Without a wave of community support, we may be forced to close our doors.

We know times are tough for everyone right now, which is why we aren’t asking for one person to give a fortune. We are asking our village to come together.

If 16,000 people donate just $5, Elijah’s Closet will be fully funded for an entire year.

Just $5. The price of a cup of coffee. The loose change in your console. That tiny amount, multiplied by our community, means we can keep serving the children who need us most.

💔 What happens if we close?
Children lose a vital resource. Foster parents lose a crucial support system. Our community loses a piece of its safety net. We cannot let that happen.

👉 HOW YOU CAN HELP RIGHT NOW (Choose 1, 2, or all 3!):
1️⃣ DONATE $5: Click the link below in the comments to give your $5. Every single dollar goes directly toward keeping our doors open for local kids.

2️⃣ SHARE THIS POST: Please hit that share button—your share could reach the person who saves us.

3️⃣ LEAVE A COMMENT: Drop a heart, a words of encouragement, a screenshot of your donation, or tag a friend below. Comments tell Facebook this matters, forcing it to spread further and wider on people's feeds.

We have always been a community that steps up for our kids. Let’s do it again. Please donate, share, and comment to help us keep our doors open. 🎒👕👶❤️

Say HELLO to Jasmine Barnes, M.Ed., Ed.S., LPC, BC-TMH one of our board member for MSAPT. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Telemental Health Provider, and has a specialist degree and training in play therapy from The University of Mississippi. Jasmine is the owner of Stepping Stones Counseling, LLC in Gulfport, MS where she provides play therapy for children and mental health services for teens, adults, and couples.

According to Jasmine, "Play therapy bridges the gap between what children feel and what they are able to say, creating opportunities for early intervention and long-term impact. Play therapists are often a child's first experience of a safe, accepting space. We stand on the front lines helping children express, process, and make sense of their world in ways that words alone cannot."

"Children learn more from what you are than what you teach."- W.E.B. Du Bois

International Play Therapy Week!
Talking about child su***de is hard, but staying silent is more dangerous.
Children don't always have the words to say "I'm hurting." Instead, they may show us through changes in behavior, play, mood, or relationships.

⚠️Warning signs may include⚠️
-Withdrawal from family or friends
-Increased anger, sadness, or irritability
-Talking about death or disappearing
-Changes in sleep, appetite, or school performance
-Giving away possessions or saying goodbye

Asking a child directly if they are having thoughts about hurting themselves does NOT plant the idea, it can save a life.

If a child or teen is in crisis:
📞 Call or text 988- Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (24/7, free, confidential)
📞Call 911 in an emergency
💛 Take every statement seriously
💛 Stay calm and present
💛 Reach out for professional help immediately

If you need support or guidance, please reach out to a licensed mental health professional.

International Play Therapy Week
🛑 Let's talk about Safe versus Unsafe Touch
Talking to kids about bodies and boundaries doesn't have to be scary. In therapy, we focus on simple, empowering messages that help children stay safe and confident. Having repeated conversations calmly over time builds body safety, confidence, and trust.

✋ Safe vs. unsafe touch
Safe touch helps keep us clean, healthy, or safe. Unsafe touch makes us feel confused, scared, or uncomfortable.
👙 Private parts are private
Teach children that areas covered by a swimsuit are private.
🗣️ Use CORRECT body part names
Using proper names (i.e., p3nis instead of wee-wee) helps children communicate clearly and reduces shame.
🚓 Tell a trusted adult
Encourage kids to tell if something feels wrong, and remind them that they won't be in trouble.
🚫 No secrets about bodies
Teach: "Surprises are okay, secrets about bodies are not." If someone wants you to keep a secret, that's a clue to tell a trusted adult IMMEDIATELY.
🧠 Listen to the body's signals
Feelings like "uh-oh", tummy aches, or wanting to move away are important clues.
