Most beauty conversations start with wrinkles.

I think we need to start with energy.

Your cells need ATP to repair, regenerate, communicate, and produce collagen. As we age, mitochondrial function naturally declines, which can impact how efficiently those processes happen.

This is why I’m so interested in technologies and treatments that support cellular function—not because they replace biology, but because they support what the body is already trying to do.

Follow along as we break down beauty from the cellular level up.

Most people think every skin treatment works by “building collagen.”

But many of the immediate changes you see after a treatment are actually coming from improved lymphatic flow, muscle stimulation, circulation, and reduced inflammation.

The INIA Glace combines microcurrent, cooling therapy, red light, and a gua sha-inspired design to support the body’s natural processes for a more sculpted, refreshed appearance.

If you’re on a weight loss journey, you already know the goal isn’t just losing weight, it’s protecting your lean muscle.

We talk all the time about prioritizing protein and strength training, and those will always be the foundation. But let’s be real... life gets busy.

That’s why I’ve been using the INIA Curvify Shorts. They use EMS technology to create muscle contractions while you’re going about your day. Wear them during your workout for a little extra challenge, or wear them while cooking dinner, doing chores, answering emails, or even relaxing on the couch.

Nothing replaces exercise, but if you’re looking for a way to support muscle engagement when life gets hectic, this is one of my favorite little hacks.

Beauty Through Biology means working with your body, not against it.

A little introduction for anyone new to my page.

I’ve spent the last 15+ years helping patients navigate the world of medical aesthetics, lasers, skin health, and wellness. I’m a licensed esthetician specializing in medical aesthetics, and I have the privilege of working alongside our Medical Director, Dr. Sherry Niccoli, MD, every day.

Great results start with experience, education, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

NAD is getting a lot of attention right now, but what if the better question isn't "How do I get more NAD?" but "Why is my body using so much of it in the first place?"

In Beauty Through Biology, we're exploring the science behind cellular energy, inflammation, communication, and repair—because understanding the biology helps us better understand the tools we use to support healthy aging.

The goal isn't to look 25.

The goal is to feel powerful at 48.

Strong enough to hike the mountain.
Strong enough to chase your kids.
Strong enough to build muscle.
Strong enough to enjoy the life you've worked so hard to create.

Performance isn't just for athletes.

It's for every woman who refuses to let age decide what's possible.

Why has red light therapy become so popular?

One reason is its relationship to mitochondrial function.

Mitochondria are the cellular batteries that produce ATP, the energy your skin uses for repair, recovery, and collagen production.

Different wavelengths of light may support different biological processes, which is why understanding the science behind the technology matters.

When you understand the biology, skincare starts making a lot more sense. 🧬

Most anti-aging treatments fall into one of three categories:

⚡ Cellular Energy

🧬 Cellular Communication & Inflammation

✨ Repair & Remodeling

When I evaluate a skincare ingredient, device, or treatment, I ask which bucket it's addressing.

Cellular Energy:
Think mitochondria, ATP, red light therapy, near infrared light, and technologies that support how cells produce energy.

Cellular Communication & Inflammation:
Think peptides, growth factors, PDRN, exosomes, microcurrent, and ingredients that help cells communicate more effectively and reduce inflammatory signaling.

Repair & Remodeling:
Think microneedling, IPL, radiofrequency, laser treatments, and collagen stimulation. These treatments create controlled signals that encourage the body to repair and rebuild.

The more I learn about cellular biology, the more I realize that healthy aging isn't about finding one miracle treatment.

It's about supporting the body through all three of these pathways.

Have you ever heard of zombie cells?

Scientists call them senescent cells. They're not dead, but they're no longer functioning properly either.

The challenge is that they can release inflammatory signals that affect the healthy cells around them.

Healthy aging isn't just about treating wrinkles. It's about supporting healthy cellular function, reducing inflammation, and encouraging proper skin renewal.

One of the questions I received in my Beauty Through Biology series was:

"How do we get rid of zombie cells?"

It's a great question, but the answer is more complex than simply removing them.

Zombie cells, or senescent cells, are damaged cells that have stopped functioning properly. They're not dead, but they're no longer contributing the way healthy cells should.

The bigger concern is that they can release inflammatory signals that affect the healthy cells around them.

Current research is focused on three primary strategies:

🧬 Helping the body identify and clear damaged cells more efficiently

🧬 Reducing the inflammatory signals those cells produce

🧬 Preventing healthy cells from becoming senescent in the first place

This is where many of the technologies and treatments we discuss begin to connect.

Red light therapy, microcurrent, exercise, nutrition, and sleep support healthier cellular function and energy production.

Microneedling, IPL, radiofrequency, and laser treatments stimulate repair, renewal, and tissue remodeling.

Healthy aging isn't about finding one magic treatment.

It's about creating an environment where healthy cells thrive, inflammation is reduced, and the body's natural repair systems can function more efficiently.
