Rooted Through Recovery is a trauma-informed, neuroscience-based recovery practice I developed after three decades of trying to heal in spaces that were never built for people like us. It’s a completely original 12-step-inspired framework designed for survivors of trauma, addiction, chronic dysregulation, and anyone who’s rebuilding a life from the inside out.

Our weekly Rooted Through Recovery meetings happen every Sunday at 10 AM, in person and on Zoom.

Each week we explore the deeper layers of healing through nervous system science, embodiment, reflection, and community connection — honoring the truth that trauma is the root, and recovery grows from safety, self-understanding, and compassion.

If you’re looking for a place where your story isn’t minimized, where your trauma isn’t dismissed, and where your healing is honored as a whole-body, whole-life process, join us.

Group guitar lessons Tuesday night! As always, donation based. It’s small on purpose. Capped at six so it stays grounded, relational, and aware. All instruments are provided. Guitars, yes. But also on site keys and percussion so we can layer rhythm, build sound, and actually let the sessions come alive instead of sitting rigidly practicing scales.

If you’ve wanted to learn but money stopped you, this is your invitation. If you’re curious and don’t want a large investment, this is your invitation.
If you’re looking for a way to express, this is your invitation.
If you just wanna connect and learn something new, this is your invitation.

Tuesday nights. 5:30 PM. Ya gotta pre register.

We are changing access, one chord at a time.

Yoga Nidra is a still, guided practice. this is not a movement class, and there is nothing you need to know or be able to do before you arrive. Rather than asking you to quiet your mind, relax on command, or reach a particular state, you’ll be invited to notice body, breath, sensation, thought, imagery, and whatever else may be present. Sound will be woven throughout as another layer of the experience.

Come dressed in whatever allows you to feel most at ease. We have mats, blankets and bolsters available, and you are always welcome to bring your own blanket, pillow, eye covering, or anything else you’d like to have with you. You can lie down, sit, move, change positions, keep your eyes open—there is no single “right” way to participate.

I’ve been thinking a lot about guardrails in the wellness industry, and increasingly, about my own role in certification.

Earlier this year, an experience with someone presenting themselves as a shaman crossed my bodily and sexual boundaries so profoundly that I experienced it as sexual abuse. There was no licensing board, governing body or meaningful place within that profession to report what happened.

But I’ve also experienced this from the other side.

I’ve trained and certified practitioners in trauma-informed practices. I’ve explicitly taught consent, boundaries, scope, language and ethics—and then watched people leave my training and do things that directly contradict what they were taught.

And my name is still on their certificate. That bothers me enough that I’ve seriously questioned whether I want to continue certifying people at all. Because I can control the integrity of what I teach. I cannot control the integrity of someone’s practice once they leave.

This industry has become very good at creating certifications and very bad at creating accountability around what happens afterward.

And when the work involves trauma, addiction, mental health, altered states or vulnerable people, “they were certified” simply isn’t enough.

We need clearer scopes of practice. We need real ethical standards. We need complaint processes and consequences. We need credentials that can mean something beyond completing a training.

And we desperately need to stop blurring wellness with clinical treatment. A certification in a wellness modality does not make someone a therapist, and we need to stop using language that suggests otherwise.

Maybe the conversation shouldn’t be about how many more people we can certify. Maybe it should be about who is accountable after we do.
Because a certificate can document education but sadly it cannot guarantee ethics.

trauma-informed….at this point, the words are being attached to everything.

Trauma-informed yoga. Trauma-informed breathwork. Trauma-informed sound. Trauma-informed meditation. Trauma-informed coaching.

But putting those words in front of a modality does not magically make the experience trauma-informed.

You can absolutely educate yourself in trauma, neuroscience and neurobiology. You should. That education can change the way you facilitate. It can help you understand why choice matters, why predictability matters, why stopping matters, why stillness is not neutral for everyone, and why two people can have completely different responses to the exact same practice.

But that education should make you MORE careful about what you claim….not more confident that you know what somebody else’s body is going to do.

Trauma-informed does not mean “I can regulate you.”

It does not mean “I can release your trauma.”

It does not mean “I can make you “relax” or “rest” or release”

And it definitely does not mean you get to override someone because you’ve decided that staying, surrendering, breathing through it, or pushing past discomfort is somehow what they need.

If someone cannot say no without that no being interpreted as fear, resistance, ego, avoidance, or “their trauma talking,” then we have a problem.

Trauma-informed is not a certification you hide behind or a phrase you use to sell a class. It should show up in the way you treat the person in front of you, every person.

Otherwise, it’s just cliche branding you’re using.
