💛 Another wonderful Wednesday at Walking to Wellness!

Before today’s presenters spoke, longtime PTFW member and W2W participant Brenda Finley shared information about an upcoming fair at her church and invited fellow walkers to join her.

We also heard from Lindsay Ridenour, Program Coordinator with the Washington County Health Department, who shared information about the Healthy Heart Ambassador Program. This program offers self-monitoring support, lifestyle coaching, and nutrition education to help adults with hypertension reach and maintain healthier blood pressure levels.

❤️ Information Session: Monday, September 28 at 5:45 PM
❤️ Classes Begin: Monday, October 26 at 5:45 PM
📍 Williamsport Memorial Library

Today’s featured discussion also included two of the three Washington County Board of Education candidates who are running together as a slate. Pieter Bickford was unable to attend due to a work conflict, but Linda Murray, a current BOE member running for re-election, and Robin Spickler, a retired teacher with 44 years of teaching experience, shared their reasons for wanting to serve the community and support education in Washington County.

They spoke about bringing different skills and perspectives to the table while sharing priorities that include adequate pay for employees, safe schools, common-sense decision making, and keeping the Board of Education nonpartisan.

That’s what makes Walking to Wellness so special — it’s about so much more than getting our steps in. It’s a place to connect, share information, learn from one another, and stay engaged with what’s happening in our community. 💕

If you haven’t joined us yet, next Wednesday is the perfect time!

This Wednesday at Walking to Wellness, we’re welcoming three longtime Washington County community members who are currently running together for the Washington County Board of Education.

Robin Merchant Spickler, Linda Murray, and Pieter Bickford each bring decades of experience in education, public service, and community involvement. During this week’s walk, they’ll share a little about their backgrounds, their connection to Washington County Public Schools, and the educational values and priorities that have brought them together.

📚 Robin Merchant Spickler spent 44 years teaching Kindergarten and Pre-K in Washington County. She remains active in her church and community, has faithfully attended Board of Education meetings for many years, and has three grandchildren currently attending WCPS.

🍎 Linda Murray worked in special education with WCPS for 26 years and has volunteered with numerous organizations throughout the community. She has served on the elected Board of Education since 2017 and has a grandson attending high school in Washington County.

🎙️ Pieter Bickford is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School and a familiar face to many from his years as an anchor at WHAG-TV alongside Lou Scally. He previously served on the Board of Education from 2016–2024 and continues to give his time to several boards and committees throughout Washington County.

One of the things we love most about Walking to Wellness is the opportunity to walk, talk, listen, and learn from people who are invested in our community.

We had another wonderful Wednesday of Walking to Wellness! This week’s conversation question was: What shows or movies have you been watching this summer? 📺🍿

We had quite the variety of answers! Some of our walkers shared that they don’t watch much TV at all and would rather listen to the radio, while others mentioned favorites like The Librarians, Law & Order, The Last Ship, Ted Lasso and Leanne.

We even had tennis fans, YouTube videos about the Life of Malamutes, and Chelsea Handler’s podcast thrown into the mix! 🎾🐾🎧

One of the best parts of Walking to Wellness is getting to know each other a little better while we move, connect and enjoy some great conversation. What a gift it is to simply connect!

We can’t wait to see everyone again next Wednesday at 12 PM at the ARCC at HCC! 💙

What another wonderful day at Walking to Wellness! 💚🚶‍♀️

This week’s presentation was led by Dr. Singi Weerasuriya, who encouraged us to simply call her “Dr. Singi.” She gave an engaging and informative talk about the importance of fiber and the powerful role it plays in our overall health and well-being.

Singi also created and shared a helpful handout packed with practical information, including how much fiber we should be getting each day, foods that are naturally high in fiber, and easy tips for adding more fiber into our daily diets. It was a topic that truly resonated with everyone, and we are so grateful she took the time to share her knowledge with our Walking to Wellness community.

A special thank you also goes to Dave, one of our incredibly dedicated and engaged volunteers, for creating a beautiful new Walking to Wellness banner that welcomed and inspired everyone as they arrived. It’s volunteers like Dave who help make this community so special!

Every Wednesday is more than just a walk. It’s a chance to learn something new, build meaningful connections, encourage one another, and take another step toward healthier living together.

We can’t wait to see everyone again next Wednesday for another great week of walking, learning, and making meaningful connections!

Last week at Walking to Wellness, we were reminded that wellness isn’t just about taking steps…it’s about taking them together. 💙

Our members formed a circle and acted out the building blocks of meaningful relationships:
🤝 We connect.
👀 We show up.
👂 We listen.
❤️ We support and encourage.

Then came the best part…the stories.

Lisa shared the special friendship she’s built with fellow W2W member Dave, affectionately calling him her “Activity Husband” because they enjoy so many activities together. Elisabeth spoke about how inspired she is by Malarie’s dedication to walking and her incredible weight-loss journey. Tina Fraley, a Prime Time for Women Board member, shared her gratitude for Bernadette for creating a place where genuine friendships can grow.

Those moments are exactly what Walking to Wellness is all about. Every Wednesday, people come for the walk—but they stay because of the encouragement, laughter, accountability, and friendships they find along the way.

Tina also introduced two wonderful Fitminded Living programs—Harmony Over Hustle and Nourish & Namaste—and generously offered Walking to Wellness members the opportunity to try them FREE.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, this is your sign. 💙
