Today we’re shining the spotlight on Lacey, our Clinical CMA🩺

Did you know clinical CMAs develop a special superpower? 🦸‍♀️

It’s the ability to know what the doctor needs before they even finish asking for it.

Patient prepped? Done.

MYTH BUSTING MONDAY

❌ MYTH:
“An enlarged prostate means I have prostate cancer.”

✅ FACT:
An enlarged prostate, or BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia), is NOT prostate cancer.

BPH is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate that becomes increasingly common as men age.

It can cause symptoms such as:

🚽 Frequent urination
🌙 Getting up several times during the night
💧 A weak or slow urine stream
⏳ Trouble starting urination
😣 Feeling like the bladder didn’t completely empty
⚡ Urgency

Here’s the important part: BPH and prostate cancer can cause some similar urinary symptoms, and a man can have both conditions at the same time.

So don’t diagnose yourself based on symptoms—or assume prostate problems are “just part of getting older.”

Having an enlarged prostate does NOT mean you have prostate cancer. But changes in urination are still worth talking about with your healthcare provider.

🐦 FUN FACT FRIDAY: WILD UROLOGY EDITION!

Ever wonder why you’ve never heard of a bird having to “hold its pee?”

Most birds don’t have a urinary bladder!

Instead of producing liquid urine the way humans do, birds conserve water by eliminating nitrogen waste primarily as uric acid.

And that white stuff you see in bird p**p?

That’s the uric acid!

You’re welcome for the completely unnecessary information you’ll now think about every time a bird flies overhead. 🦅

Bladder Botox is a treatment that may help certain patients with overactive bladder who continue to struggle with symptoms such as:

🌿 Wellness Wednesday 🌿

We talk a lot about what you drink for bladder health—but your bathroom habits matter too! 🚽💚

Holding it too long, rushing, straining, or making frequent “just in case” trips may seem harmless, but over time those habits can affect the way your bladder functions.

This week’s reminder: Listen to your bladder! It’s pretty good at letting you know when something isn’t quite right. 😉

And if you notice a change in your normal—frequency, urgency, leakage, difficulty emptying, pain, or frequent nighttime trips—don’t just learn to live with it. Talk to your healthcare provider.

TEAM TUESDAY: Meet Becky

This week’s Team Tuesday spotlight is on Becky, our Clinic Manager.

Becky is one of those people you may see at the front desk, in the hallway, helping a patient, talking with a physician—or disappearing into her office to solve whatever problem just landed on her desk.

As Clinic Manager, she helps keep the day-to-day operations of Double J Urology running smoothly, working closely with our physicians and staff and helping make sure our patients are taken care of from behind the scenes.

💡 Did You Know?

A clinic manager wears A LOT of hats—sometimes all before lunch! 🎩

Scheduling, billing, insurance, credentialing, staff, patient concerns, office operations… and, of course, the occasional:

“Hey Becky, do you have a minute?” ⏰

(Spoiler alert: It’s almost never a minute.)

Becky has been part of the urology family for years, and she’s proud to now be part of the team that’s building Double J Urology and caring for our community. 💚

🗣️ We interviewed Becky, here are some fun facts about her:

🎯My favorite thing about working in Urology is absolutely the relationship I have built with patients. I love hearing about their family and life stories, and I love that they remember about my family too.

💚 MYTH BUST MONDAY

❌ MYTH:
“If I see blood in my urine but it goes away, I don’t need to worry about it.”

✅ FACT:
Even one episode of visible blood in the urine should be discussed with your healthcare provider—even if it doesn’t hurt and even if your urine looks completely normal afterward.

Blood in the urine can have many causes, including infection, kidney stones, an enlarged prostate, or other conditions that need evaluation.

Don’t let “it went away” convince you to ignore it. 💚
