Big garden news! Our Fraxinella (Dictamnus albus) plant is finally blooming after 4 years of no flowers!

Fraxinella - also called the "gas plant" because it produces a flammable, lemon-scented essential oil/vapor - is notoriously slow to bloom. It typically takes 3-4 years to flower from seed, and it doesn’t like being transplanted either. The shock of a move can curtail flowering for another 1-2 seasons.

As an essence, Fraxinella acts as a catalyst, stimulating the movement of old, stuck or stagnant energies. Specifically, it brings repressed feelings and memories to the surface for processing.

Catalyst essences like Fraxinella often have strong fire/water signatures - they help to initiate change when we’re holding onto conscious or unconscious resistance. Using these essences can bring old hurts, disappointments and trauma lingering in the subconscious into our awareness. Although there can be periods of discomfort as past pain comes forward, there is an opportunity to release these energies from our systems, thereby gaining greater heath, balance and freedom.

We give these essence to clients who understand that their present patterns and toxic cycles are buried in their consciousness and need to surface. It is best to take these essences when the client is feeling grounded, stable and emotionally resourced.

We’re always on the lookout for new essences to support our clients. If we don’t already have an essence that aligns with a particular issue, we’ll go looking for one.

This week, we made White Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis) that we’re considering as an energetic resource for the gallbladder. Since it’s new to us, we’ll be studying its effects through the summer.

We’re kicking off essence-making season with a new batch of Bluebell. The shape of any flower can tell us quite a lot about what it does as an essence. Here’s an excerpt from David’s new book ~ Advanced Flower Essence Healing ~ about bell-shaped flowers like Bluebell.

Bells for the Subconscious

Flowers in this category are concave and point downward. The depth of the bell indicates how deeply the essence will work in the psyche. Essences from these flowers tend to work with the subconscious mind. They will often demonstrate in stages, eliciting a calm first and then later, a shift in the psyche as information comes to the surface. This shift may come in the form of a vivid dream, a change in mood or attitude, a memory or an external incident that stimulates the same feelings as an old trauma. Bell-shaped flowers are ideal for those involved in any type of serious self-improvement including psychotherapy, couples counseling, somatic work, deep tissue therapy and trauma work.

The Bluebell flower essence helps us uncover subconscious blocks to happiness. If you find you're chronically grumpy and want to withdraw from people or life, use this essence to lift that negative mindset and dissipate cynicism.
