I love my job!! I wish I could show you my learner, he was the “shark” running from the dinosaur! While all your child sees is a fun interactive activity, your therapist is focused on skill building- joint attention, social interaction, requesting, labeling, imitation, imaginative play, turn-taking, and more. ABA may be therapy, but it is done in a way that brings joy to your child’s day.

Let’s start Saturday Successes to share our wins for the week!! Who has a win to share from the past week or whenever?!

I’ll start: my client this week was able to play Candy Land without having a meltdown when they did not pull the ice cream card. They love this game and always want to play, but must be the one to pull that card or they want to start over. Big win for playing games with peers!!

Our last room is kinda boring, but has great importance. The kids will learn the routine of bringing their lunch boxes and bags into the kids’ kitchen each day. They will learn to put their food in the fridge, wash their hands, and heat up their food if appropriate. All children need to learn these life skills and we hope to organically build them into their day when they come to see us at Luminate ABA Therapy.

While we may be working with your child, we believe parents are equally important. Being a parent is hard and when your child needs more assistance, it can feel even harder and at times isolating. We want our parents to relax when they are in our waiting room. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and talk with other parents. Or just scroll your phone or read a book. Whatever you choose, if you decide to wait at the clinic during your child’s session, we want you to feel like you can breathe and take a minute for yourself. Oh, and we also have bottled water for those 90+ degree days 😉

Sometimes you need a smaller space with less options. Our space room provides this, complete with a jumbo bean bag, stuffed animals, and a weighted blanket. Grab a few sensory toys off of the shelf and take time to regulate. Lights on or off, it’s up to you. But lights off and you can look into the nebula. What would you choose?
