SI Joint decompression can be an amazing tool if you’re like me and deal with an occasionally grumpy pelvis.😭

We can get SI going pain for several different reasons that can cause instability (hey hypermobile friends💁🏼‍♀️) or stiffness around the SI joint.

If you’re sitting here like, what is the SI joint?? There’s a good chance this isn’t an issue for you 😅 but yes. The SI or sacroiliac joint is the joint between your pelvis (ilium) and your sacrum (that flat triangular bone at the bottom of our spine). This joint naturally has limited mobility but can get super loud and grumpy when it’s overly compressed, lacks stability or is inflamed for other reasons.

I get this question so very often. How can I fix my neck hump? The answer is complex so let’s get into it.

Postural neck humps can be connected to prolonged forward head posture patterns.

The further our head is away from the body the more stress is put on our spine. This can lead to an over curvature or the spinal area near the base of our neck.

Correcting or reducing this takes time, commitment, patience and attention to detail. We have to address tightness, mobility, strength and alignment. Over time, in suitable cases, we can reduce our forward head posture and take stress off if this area.

It’s important to note that not all neck humps are “fixable” and results greatly depend on cause and/or severity.
I HIGHLY suggest speaking with your doctor and/or trusted PT if it is causing you pain during movement before doing any plan or exercise.🧡

Not all neck humps are postural, some are fatty deposits associated with medical conditions. It’s important to know your specific cause to determin your unique needs.💕again please trust yours Doc to make that call. (That’s not me!💁🏼‍♀️)

I include a few examples in this video of how I approach training someone with these patterns. Release, mobilize, connect with your alignment and strengthen! There is no one Magic exercise… for anything. The body is complex!

Our head and neck are the product of what’s going on below. If we don’t address our spinal position and mobility… y’all, chin/neck exercises are honestly a waste of time.

I work with my clients for weeks or months on the rest of the body before directly targeting the neck. Why? Because often we don’t even have to! After we have built mobility and alignment elsewhere the neck follows and is in more natural alignment.

I incorporate sneaky neck work into other exercises with simple “long neck” or “chin back” cues. This simple awareness piece can make a huge difference in our results. 🙌🏼

Next time you catch yourself pushing your chin back, check in with where your rib cage is! If it’s collapsed, the neck has nowhere to go but forward.😝

The verdict is in, this pillow system is awesome!

I was a little hesitant when I unpacked it because it’s big, y’all! But it did exactly what it says it does and my hubby is no longer rubbing his shoulder when he wakes up.

The body pillow works pretty darn well on its own but if you’re looking for that zero compression, the wedge is what gets you there. Hubby loves the body pillow with his own pillow combo but I prefer the wedge set up when I steal it for a nap.🤣

You can remove stuffing in the body pillow through the zipper to adjust the pressure on your neck, I learned this from the company and think it’s a genius way to make this adjustable for different neck alignments. And they make different sizes according to your height.

Because this is a medical device you can use your FSA or HSA to pay for it. 🙌🏼 🎉

I think there’s a quote that says, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” by Albert Einstein.
And y’all…there’s some truth to that.

Our bodies are complex, yes. But movement doesn’t always have to be complicated.

If someone has to rely on overly complicated explanations and can’t connect the dots for you in a way you can understand, maybe question it.

Exercises don’t have to be flashy, brand new, or “you’ve never seen this before!” to be effective.

One of my biggest joys in coaching is watching a client have that lightbulb moment. When a movement finally clicks, when they understand what needs to happen to move toward their goals, or when we finally get a muscle online and they feel what their body has been asking for.

I always joke that my sessions come with a free anatomy lesson… but I promise it’ll be one you can understand. 🧡
