Ellie's Law (H.R. 2678 / S. 1609) would create the first dedicated NIH funding stream for brain aneurysm research.

Dr. Ethan Winkler, a BAF research grant recipient and assistant professor of Neurological Surgery at UCSF just published a landmark study in Nature Neuroscience mapping why brain aneurysms rupture at the cellular level. His findings could lead to treatments that prevent ruptures before they happen. From rupture to diagnosis: 41 minutes.

When Sarah Willett suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm in June 2019, she survived because she was close to the right hospital, seen by an ER doctor who recognized what was happening, and treated by a neurosurgeon who was available that day.

Not every patient has that. Brain aneurysm outcomes are shaped by geography, access, and chance: factors that research funding and policy change can help address.
