The next chapter is officially taking shape. 🔥🌿

After the closing of Herbs & Sympathy, I’ve been slowly rebuilding, renaming, reorganizing, photographing, blending, creating — and figuring out what The Black Cat Apothecary is going to become.

And while the website is still very much a work in progress, I didn’t want to make everyone wait until every single little thing was perfect.

But I wanted to get the doors open again. 🖤

This little apothecary has been through quite the transformation. Herbs & Sympathy will always be part of its roots, but The Black Cat Apothecary is the next chapter — and we’re building it one jar, one herb, one order and one day at a time.

Herbs & Sympathy has officially evolved into The Black Cat Apothecary.

The name and home may be changing, but so much of what you know and love is coming with us — the herbs, teas, capsules, salves, small-batch products, custom blending, herbal knowledge, and the heart behind the apothecary.

As Faith steps into retirement, the apothecary she built and nurtured has been entrusted to Beka to carry forward, allowing its roots to remain while giving it room to grow into something new.

🖤 Phoenix Post 🖤

The phoenix has been quiet lately.

Not because she disappeared…but because she has been learning that even a phoenix has to rest between flights.

Life has been full—kids, doctor’s appointments, trying to build a new website, and learning that healing isn’t something you sprint through. It’s something you walk. Slowly.

For so long, I measured my worth by how much I could accomplish in a day. Now I’m learning that constantly evolving is exhausting, and sometimes growth looks like sitting in a creek, listening to the water, letting the world be still for a little while.

That may be the biggest lesson I’ve learned this season.

This week also brought something unexpected into my life: Hadestown.

Yes…I’ve seen it twice already.

If you’ve never experienced it, it’s a story about hope in a world that often feels built on fear, power, and impossible choices. It asks whether we’ll continue repeating the same cycles or whether we’ll dare to believe another world is possible. I couldn’t help but see parallels to the world we’re living in today.

Maybe that’s why it struck such a deep chord with me.

I’ve always processed life through music. Ask me how I’m feeling and chances are I won’t have the words—but I’ll have a song.

Hadestown cracked something open inside me that had been asleep for a long time.

It reminded me how much I miss singing.

It reminded me that I want to find my voice again—not because I need to be perfect, but because music has always been where I place the things my heart can’t quite explain. I’m trying to learn to be proud of myself, even on the days when I expect more than my body or my mind can give.

Speaking of my body…

I’m finally beginning to understand that my pain wasn’t “just in my head.”

For years I convinced myself I was lazy. That maybe I just wasn’t trying hard enough. Instead, I’m now navigating cervical spine issues and have a neurosurgery consultation ahead of me. My hope is to learn what my options are and prevent surgery if possible, but I don’t know what this path looks like yet.

What I do know is this:

Having answers doesn’t erase the pain.

But it does erase years of blaming myself for something that was never a character flaw.

Healing has also meant accepting another truth.

As much as I loved our physical shoppe, I finally had to admit that maintaining that chapter of my life is no longer possible.

And that’s okay.

Sometimes we don’t lose our purpose—we simply change where it lives.

Herbs & Sympathy has officially closed, and The Black Cat Apothecary has found its own little home.

Literally.

The apothecary now has its own dedicated workspace in my house where every tea, herb, tincture, salve, and new idea continues to be handcrafted with love.

The kitties have voiced their opinions about sharing the space…but I’m pretty sure they’ll adjust.

The website is slowly taking shape. It’s still very much a work in progress and currently password protected while I continue building it piece by piece.

If you’re one of my regular customers and need herbs, teas, custom blends, salves, capsules, or anything else during this transition, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to ship directly to you while everything is coming together.

I’ve also got some exciting new product lines quietly brewing for The Black Cat Apothecary, and I can’t wait until they’re ready to share.

The hardest part of this season has probably been missing my community.

I miss our conversations.

I miss seeing your faces.

I miss watching people walk through the door looking for healing, comfort, or simply a cup of tea.

As many of you know, August has always been a tender month for me.

This year, slowing down has opened doors to memories of my dad—beautiful moments I hadn’t thought about in years, along with some difficult ones. Healing has a funny way of bringing forgotten pieces back when we’re finally still enough to receive them.

It’s a roller coaster.

But I don’t think I’d choose a different ride.

I’m also bringing pieces of my past back to life in other ways. My grandmother’s sewing machine has found its way home, and I’m looking forward to mending old clothes instead of throwing them away. There’s something poetic about that—repairing what still has life left in it.

Maybe that’s what this season has really been about.

Not becoming someone new.

Remembering who I’ve always been.

Learning that limitations don’t have to become the end of the story.

They simply ask us to write the next chapter differently.

So for now…

The Phoenix is tired.

She’s about to come off a week of steroids, which means the inflammation will probably remind her it’s still there.

But she’s still here too.

Still healing.

Still creating.

Still believing that hope matters.

Still choosing to build something beautiful, one small step at a time.

Thank you for supporting Herbs & Sympathy Apothecary through every season of this journey. Your orders, kind words, and trust in my work have meant more than you know.

I wanted to share an important update with you.
As of June 27, 2026, the Herbs & Sympathy website will close for online ordering while I work behind the scenes on a complete rebranding and website rebuild for our next chapter: Black Cat Apothecary.

Over the past few months, life has shifted in unexpected ways. Between medical appointments, family responsibilities, and the realities of childcare costs, my summer plans have changed. Rather than rushing into a new launch, I've decided to give myself the gift of time—to slow down, focus on healing, and create a website and business foundation that truly reflects the future I envision.

I am honored to share that Herbs & Sympathy Apothecary has officially been handed over to me, and I will continue carrying forward the herbal products and traditions you've come to know and love.

This is how I set my day up. ✨

Thank you for the love, trust, and support you have shown us over the years. It has been an honor to share herbs, tea, education, and care with this community.

We also want to extend thanks to Serpent's Key for the chapter we shared together, and we wish them the very best moving forward.

We also want to share that Faith is officially retiring. Her wisdom, dedication, and care helped shape Herbs & Sympathy into what it has been, and we are deeply grateful for everything she has contributed over the years.

At this time, Beka is stepping back to focus on personal healing and well-being in order to better care for herself and hopefully serve the community in a more sustainable way in the future. Right now, we are in the midst of moving, sorting, and navigating this transition.
