Let’s take a moment and discuss identification and minors. WHAT we need and WHY we need it. In PA a minor legally cannot be pierced without a parent or court ordered guardian present AT ALL TIMES. Along with that we have to ensure we cross all of our T’s and dot all of our I’s. What does that mean? It means we cannot just take your word that the child in front of us is the child on the birth certificate or that you’re the parent/ guardian. We need specific proof. That means, non expired state issued photo identification for the parent, the minors birth certificate, and photo identification for the minor. Yes this even goes for the 5 year olds. Does this get tricky sometimes? Yes. Is it a pain in the butt for EVERYONE involved? YES. We have worked too long and too hard to get to where we are so this means that no, we will not bend the rules “just this once”. It’s not an option. When you book an appointment you are directed to fill out the consent form. That form is not optional. No form, no service. It’s important to READ the form because in it is a very detailed section on everything we can and cannot accept and many options for you to choose from. Does this sometimes mean waiting a little longer until you have identification that qualifies for use, yup but it’s worth it. It’s worth it to know that you’re being pierced by a company that isn’t willing to lower their standards to make a quick buck. You’re getting pierced by a company who cares about staying current on the rules and regulations to protect you, as the parents, from anyone other than you consenting and taking your child to be pierced behind your back. Now with the use of AI we can’t even accept photos of identification or birth certificates! (Yet another reason I totally despise AI) all of this is to say that we also hate all the legal hoops we have to jump through, we hate needing to say “I’m sorry we cannot do it without all of the required documents”. We DO NOT want to turn you away but we will not risk what we have worked so hard for. It’s never a no, it’s always a “yes, once you are able to obtain the proper identification”.
