We were honored to celebrate local long-term care veterans with unforgettable biplane rides through Dream Flights.

Tom Doherty was already awake and ready for today's Dream Fight when his caregiver came to his room to remind him. "I remembered, I've been ready!" Tom laughed. Having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war, Tom loved his Dream Flight and will take today's memories back to Transitions Allen Cove with him.

John Manos, of the U.S. Marine Corps, was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. A resident at Country Meadows, John said he loved going up in the biplane having no concern with being shot down.

"Just being up there, it's incredible. I felt close to God," Charlie Billings related. Mr. Billings, is a U.S. Army veteran who served his country in the Korean war. At 95 years young, Mr. Billings said he'll back to celebrate his 100th birthday in the blue skies.

Simon Brandt, a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and resident of Country Meadows, was the second to take flight this morning. Mr Brandt said, "It's a thrill every time. I loved flying. I could be up there all day."

Dream Flights takes flight! Our first flier of the day, Donald Mummert, U.S. Navy veteran and resident at Country Meadows, was the first to participate. When asked his favorite part, Mr. Mummert replied, "All of it."

Today is the day! PHCA is proud to host Dream Flights at Capital City Airport, giving senior veterans living in long-term care facilities the experience of a lifetime aboard restored World War II-era Boeing Stearman biplanes.

Pennsylvania’s 2026-27 state budget includes a historic win for nursing homes, establishing a guaranteed minimum Medicaid reimbursement level to boost financial stability.

Starting in 2027, an 86% floor on the Budget Adjustment Factor will provide providers with more certainty for staffing and operations.

This long-awaited change aims to help facilities better manage rising costs and workforce shortages as they continue caring for the state's aging population.
