Making my way back to my new normal after my Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) surgery.

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost four weeks since surgery. At my latest appointment, my doctor gave me the green light to start exercising again, as long as I continue to stay completely off my affected leg. I still have about eight more weeks on crutches before I can begin putting full weight on my right side.

Being back at the studio and easing into some sort of routine feels incredibly good. Mentally, this recovery has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. Going from constantly being on the go- running a business, supporting my kids’ activities, spending time with my family, and teaching- to suddenly doing very little was a huge adjustment.

If you know me, you know I’m not someone who sits still easily. There was definitely a moment (or two!) of frustration when I realized I couldn’t just get up and do the things I wanted to do. Recovery has required a level of patience that doesn’t come naturally to me.

Today was my first real outing with my family since surgery, and it felt so good for my mind and spirit. These little milestones may seem small, but right now they feel huge.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent messages, offered support, and cheered me on throughout this journey. Your kindness means more than you know.

I’m coming back just one step at a time. It may take a little longer, but I’ll be back in full swing before I know it.

I miss you all. ❤️

A little update on my PAO surgery… plus an X-ray peek 👀

I just got the green light from my surgeon to start doing some of my PT exercises outside, which honestly feels like a huge win mentally and physically. I’m following my PT’s guidelines closely and only doing exercises that are appropriate for this stage of recovery. My doctor also cleared me for upper body work, as long as I’m not putting weight on my right leg- the side that had surgery.

For those who don’t know, a PAO surgery involves making four cuts around the hip socket to reposition it into better alignment. Everything was then secured with four long screws. Recovery is no joke. I’m limited to only 20% weight-bearing on my affected leg for at least 6 weeks while the bones fuse and heal properly, followed by another 6 weeks on crutches after that.

If I put too much weight on it too soon, it could lead to stress fractures in my pelvis and set recovery back even further. So as eager as I am to get back to normal life, I’ll definitely be following doctor’s orders 🫡

I’m just really grateful to finally get outside a little. Being stuck inside and less involved in my kids’ day-to-day lives has been harder on me mentally than I expected. Even though it’s only been two weeks, it’s definitely affected me. Getting fresh air, seeing my family more, and stopping by the studio has already lifted my spirits so much.

One day at a time 🤍

Happy Tuesday ✨ just like in everyday movement the feet create the foundation for balance 🤍 Whether it’s heels, toes, arches, or tendon stretch, pressing evenly through the foot bar creates more stability, better control, and a stronger connection to your powerhouse 💫 😊

Happy Tuesday ✨ even in recovery mode, I’m still showing up for you.
Teaching doesn’t stop just because I’m slowing down it just gets a little more intentional 🤍 did you know this there’s a proper way to prepare and sit on the reformer? Small adjustments = big differences
