CT Nurses United

CT Nurses United Healthcare workers are feeling the moral strain of a failed system that serves executives, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies- not patients.

We are fighting for an equitable, affordable, transparent system that values patients over profits.

St. Francis was once a highly regarded community hospital in Hartford. It was founded in 1897 by The Sisters of St. Joseph. In 2015, Trinity Health, a Michigan-based corporate Catholic hospital system took over. Trinity’s “leadership” has been disastrous for the hospital and the community it serves.

The past few years, nurses and physicians have advocated tirelessly to get St. Francis back on track as they worked hard to deliver care under impossible circumstances. While patients waited in the ER without enough nurses to monitor them safely, Trinity Health executives took home millions of dollars for themselves.

Change takes time, but St. Francis nurses and physicians are a force. They have been tirelessly advocating for their patients, submitting safety reports to the department to public health, and working with legislators to fight out-of-state corporate interests. We need SFH, and we need healthcare workers to have safe and reasonable working conditions to take care of us when we need them.

In the last three years, SFH has gone through 2 presidents, 2 chief nursing officers, and 1 CEO of Trinity Health of New England. This is because our community won’t settle for anything less than what SFH was and is meant to be - an excellent, highly regarded hospital.

Change takes time, but our collective efforts are a powerful force. Thank you to the healthcare workers and community leaders standing up for a better future at St. Francis Hospital.
